There’s a nice 1/2" tan head with frothy lacing that stays with you till the end. Nose is sweet with malts and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium with average carbonation, a little bit creamy. Flavor is slightly sweet with malts and breadlike flavors. Some nuttiness is in there . I enjoyed this one. Slipstream (783), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2007 Nice label with those cute black and white drawings of working men that Berkshire Brewing likes. Brown color with nice head and lacing. Mild aroma. This has a fresh, robust flavor - grains, sweet malt, caramel, a dash of coffee, and mildly bitter on the fade-out. A good all around brew that is worthy of the cool waters and green hills of western Massachusetts. wilderthanyou (423), Guelph, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Pours a brick red cololur with a thin sticky beige head. Malty aroma, with notes of caramel and nuts. Lots of malty flavours of caramel, toffee, and a touch of vanilla with a dry nutty finish. Surprisingly good, especially considering the lack of hops to balance this brew. I really enjoyed this brew, and will probably bring a few back with me to canada. Top notch, everything from the berkshire brewery has been impressive so far. cbeers21 (583), Miami, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Brown copper colored with lacing white head. Oaky malts, sugar, nuts, toffee and figs are all here. The beer itself is sticky-fruity sugary sweet, lighter bodied brown. Nice murky river water, thats for sure. Very mild with little going on in the nose. Dark amber clear body with creamy off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with almost cask smooth carbonation, just shy of creamy. Very mild. Starts with decent amount of maltiness, some grainy character. Some vanilla. Not much else. A bit of a sweet character and very little hoppiness. Nice dry nutty bitterness at finish. Nice session ale. mbrandon2w (109), Worcester, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 12, 2007 a nice, smooth dark ale. nice malt flavor, low hops, some body but a touch watery. It’s a nice, easy drinking beer, and the alcohol is well-hidden. Definitely one I would like to drink again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it again. A solid beer, just not too inspiring. hopdog (5614), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 16, 2007 22oz bottle acquired in trade with ppoitras (thanks!). This happens to be my 100th Brown Ale rating. Poured light brown, almost a deeper orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, chocolate and nuts. Tastes of caramel, chocoalte, nuts and had a sugary sweetness as well.. Thinner body. Although this had the typical Brown Ale profile, I found the tastes and aromas didn’t really mesh together well. It was as if they were each fighting each other and and definitely did not blend. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
