Had ~6oz pour at KC Bier Meisters meeting in my NB worthy glass. Clear, golden yellow, white head. Aroma is similar to white wine with notes of apples, pears, and lemon. Taste is tart; lemons, apple, and pears. Interesting flavor! Mouthfeel is puckering and thin. This beer is very, very tart. I can see why they sometimes add fruits syrups to them. My first of the style.

I found the aroma to be quite daunting, and never really got used to it. However, once you quit sniffing and start drinking, you forget about the initial olfactory asault. Sure it was sour...that was the best part of this beer. I am glad I tried this beer, but I don’t think it is a style that greatly appeals to me.

Beige yellow with thin head. Hazy. Malty aroma with notes of pears, white bread and cellar. A bit acidic. Somewhat hoppy and fruity. Fruity flavor with notes of bread, müsli and cornflakes. Acidic finish.

Figured this deserved a re-rate. Lucky guess. Very tart/sour aroma, mostly lemon-like citrus, some hay/farmhouse mustiness in the background. Flavor hits with a quick sour kick up front, quickly fades to a farmhouse funk, slighty skunk like middle, then dissapears to nothing. Almost no aftertaste, only some sweet wheat characteristics. Very crisp and clean. Mouthfeel is a tad thin, but probably true to style, (only my second berliner). Bet the overall would improve significantly for most re-rates, just MO. 3.6 and that’s with app and palate killing the score.

Oh, not my style guys. This was sour, and that is all I can say. Sour and looked like ginger ale.

Bottle at Andy’s, served in a proper Kindl Weiss glass. Golden, with a white head, and almost clear. A refreshing soured banana and fruit aroma. Flavor is crisp light and refreshing. Slightly sour. Dry, tart, and thirst quenching. A little fizzy and pop like. This is a fantastic substitute for soft drinks. Maybe kids should be given this instead of Coke, eh?

first berliner weisse, out of the bottle. salty malty aroma, smells more like ocean water than beer. very acidic and salty flavor, nearly fishy but definitely not bad. what the hell kind of beer is this anyway? not much wheat character, but i can detect some hefeweizen-ness in there. definitely not a style for the faint-of-heart.

This is my first berliner weisse, and i don’t know about that syrup thing, so i’ll just try it by itself. Pours a orange/yellow with a quick falling white head, very light beer. Aroma is lightly wheaty, more dominating aroma of honey and slight cider apple or pear. It almost seems like this beer will start with some sweetness, but none what so ever. Very mild sourness, very refreshing. More of the apple tastes comes through, at the front of the palate while a wheatiness stays back with the sourness and into the aftertaste. The honey from the nose had me hoping for more sweetness and body to this brew, but it was much lighter and more of a refreshing brew. This really wasn’t extremely sour as the discription above states, very moderate sourness in fact.
