Smells like a high quality pilsner, and looks like one as well. There are three flavors. The first is very light citrus. The next is sour, and the finish is a heavy with yeast. Not nearly as sour as I expected, and not even close to a gueze. Aftertaste of baguette. Light palate. I should be drinking this on a hot day in the summer, but at the price of this beer I won’t buy it again. Jedsbrew (465), Rhineland, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 18, 2004 Light golden color with a touch of chill haze, minimal fizzy head and weak carbonation. Aroma of malt, wheaty, reminded me of a box of cereal or dry catfood. Light bodied, twangy mouth puckering sourness that passes quickly, lemon, sour apples, seltzerish with a short finish. Never drank anything quite like this-I liked it but I can see how some might not. Came in a stubby 11oz bottle and was pricy-13+ a 6pk. Jine (896), Nutley, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 13, 2004 This is VERY sour. You cannot like this style if you can’t handle the sour. Personally there was something in the sourness that I found appealing, I love weizens and am intrigued by this berliner variety. Good stuff beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 9, 2004 Slightly hazy pale gold. Seemed kinda barnyard skunky at first but then I got some sour apples too. Quite tart and sour without much complexity I could discern - some citrus and sour apples. Crisp and bubbly, it finished pretty clean. My first Berliner Weisse that I can remember and had after a truly spectacular Flemish Sour Ale so perhaps that is playing a part in te rating.... dortmunder (961), Herdecke, Germany
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 23, 2004 Cloudy pale golden colour with a green touch. Sour, unripe apple aroma. Taste is of course sour, very citric, slightly yeasty and that unripe apple thing going on. Not as good as Schultheiss, but not far behind it. shrubber85 (2966), Wallhalben, Germany
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 18, 2004 Bottle - a tart/sour aroma - only slight hint of fruitiness. Clear yellow-tan color. Very tart flavor (like a green apple) with the slightess hint of fruity malt. Understand why Berliners don’t drink this straight but with a shot of raspberry or woodruff syrup. It’s very tart and bland. Nexxus (261), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 16, 2004 Hazy pale yellow with a massive diminishing frothy white head. Sweet and sour aroma of green apple, lemon, hay, light bread and herbs. Medium light watery body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor of wheat, lemon, green apple, hay and herbs. With the syrup added: I can see why more people would like this now - it kind of resembles an alcopop, or a bad Éphémère. Slightly better flavor, but still not my thing.
A drinkable beer either way, but not very good. With its high price here ($15 for a 6 pack - a 6 pack of bell’s expedition is $13) and low ABV it isn’t even a good value.
