330ml bottle (3.0% ABV) by courtesy of Knut Albert. Foggy, straw coloured body under a fragile, white head. Tart wheat and raspberries to the nose. Tingling sourness with lemon and green apples. Refreshing, but rather one-dimensional (22.04.2008).

Gold, slightly hazy. Curious vegetal aroma: tomato juice perhaps? Taste is sour but stops shop of acidity. Quite smooth and lemony. That’s it, really: a fairly nice refreshing low alcohol sour drink. Might have one next time I’m in Berlin.

Bottle: Hazy, pale golden, visible carbonation, persistent white foamy layer; moderate sourish-wheaty nose, some fruitiness reminding of green apples detectable; moderate sour flavour, supported by a light sweetness, light bodied; becomes a bit fruitier towards the moderately citrousy-sourish finish. A pleasant thirst quencher, not very demanding.........

Stubby bottle. Golden yellow color with a slight haze and a small white head. A bit of sour, soggy grains in the nose, with some perfumy wheat, light pillowy yeast, cracked corn and a light note of nail polish remover. Fresh, vibrant acidity up front that turns to a sour grain, lemon, wheat and prickly vinegar, before settling out in the finish. The vinegar acidity is quite high, while the body is light, thin and snappy. Sourness isn’t exactly that tasty, basically just straight lactobacillus, it seems like.

Bottle with a barely visible "Best by" date of 03.07. Pours a pale, hazy straw with a thin, quickly diminishing white head. The nose is sour citrus over a faint wheat backing. Light-bodied, tart and sour with a fairly crisp finish, yet there is a faint, short, lingering sourness in the aftertaste. The flavor is a tart citrus over a sour wheat base. On some sips, I get an odd green olive sourness added to the mix, and that’s a bit off-putting. I have to think this might be a bit better if it were fresher, but overall, I was pretty underwhelmed.

33cl bottle from Irishboy. Quite lactic aroma. Missing some of the bright lemon zest that I have found in others of this styler. Old milk, cottage cheese, old bread dough, wet, moldy grass. Pours bright, semi hazy gold with a very thin white head. Quite lactic on the tongue as well. Wheres the sharp tartness? Tongue coating lactic sourness. lacks the crisp element. Medium bodied with light carbonation. I still like this style quite a bit, though.

Sampled in Trier, Germany: poured a hazy yellow with a big head into a trappist glass. Aroma was slightly sour and tart, but not overwhelming in anyway. Flavor was sour, but not intensely so, very nice light flavor, that keeps you coming back for another sip. Slightly lemony and tart. Very light mouthfeel. I feel like I could drink about 20 of these on a summer afternoon. Enjoyable.
