For some reason I had missed out on this Berliner Weisse up to now, so was pleased to get the opportunity to try it. Nicely sharp and refreshing, with some lambic-like qualities, as expected but it also had a less expected bready character which clashed a little. I prefer the Schultheiss I think. Shame there aren’t more examples of the style still around.

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 10, 2008 A very average beer. I only tried it a couple times due to a lack of alternatives available at the time so it’s definitely not a beer I would typically purchase voluntarily. I like to think of it as the German version of Budweiser. tarjei (1756), Bryne, Norway

It´s very sour, and it is a bad sourness. Some yeast and wheat malt, high carbonation, dry finish. Maybe this beer goes with the right food - alone it´s close to crap. Thank you for this weird beer, Yngwie! kappldav123 (1880), Markkleeberg, Germany

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 14, 2007 33 cL bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a huge white head. Wheat and slight acidic nose. Flavour is citric/acidic with a mellow wheat note, has a mild malt base too. Finish is much the same way, not unpleasant. I’ve had this in Berlin as well, pure - which raised an eyebrow. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 30, 2007 (Bottle, thanks Gnoff!) Pours hazy yellow. The aroma brings wheat-ish and fruity tones of green apple cider and lemony citrus. A bit salty. The flavour is also quite citric along with some wheat tones and hints of malted barely. Medium sour and tart mouthfeel. Light to medium bodied. Bit lambic like. Not that complex but still rather nice and refreshing. gnoff (3574), Göteborg, Sweden

It is not difficult to understand that this has gone out of fashion. It is an acquired taste. Midway between a Bavarian wheat and a Belgian lambic is a way to describe it. The citrus flavour is bordering on vinegar, but it is a sourness that is very refreshing if you like that kind of thing.
