A strong, sweet and very full-bodied ale, with malt and roasted malt flavors predominating. This dark red colored ale is a house favorite among our specialty beers.

Growler, from Richlikebeer, at the Jimmack invitational gathering. Dark brown, clear, tan head. Big assertive wonderful smokey carmel malty aroma. Some candied notes. Flavor not nearly as assertive, but nice malty carmel, with a very light drinkable palate. Decent overall.

From the tap at BBW. Dark brown/deep reddish colored body with a very thin tan head. A thin, light nutty flavor that went down easily.

On tap at the Bethlehem Brew Works Brew Pub. Poured a dark reddish brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of roasted malts, light toffee, and light peat lurking in there as well.

Pours reddish amber, with medium head. Aroma of malt, toffee, cabernet. Tastes of malt, scotch, cabernet, and slight nuts. Medium palate, and a smooth finish.

Heavy, of course, as a scotch ale ought be. Creamy and hard tasting in this particular liquid. I "pity this beer", as I was fixated with the Mr. T chalkboard drawing above the bar as I drank it. Hard tasting, but probably an easy compliment to food or a smoke, if you so desire.

Pretty good but not standout. Like I said in my Sam Adams Scotch review, I have a hard time with these beers. I was sort of looking ahead and deciding what I wanted to get next, so that usually isn’t a good sign.

Reddish brown in color, nice tan bubbly head, stingy carbonation, well balanced, medium-full body, semi-dry finish, a hint of raisons, a pretty average scottish ale
