| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 10, 2006 Had this at the Malvern Brew Fest. The pour was deep black with burgundy menisci and a tan head. The aroma was heavily chocolate and roasty dark malty, with some cabernet and fruit hints. The palate was not as dense as I’d like for an Impy. The flavor was roasty malty, fruity, with some chocolate hints. This one reminded me of a souped up version of Magic Hat Ravell. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 20, 2009 Tap @ the pub. Now 9% ABV. Poured opaque with a copper edge and tan head. Semi-sweet roasted malt with light alcohol notes. Roasted and sweet malt flavor with some smoky notes. Warming with a medium body and silky mouthfeel. egajdzis (3629), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Mar 27, 2008 Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malts, dark fruits, sherry, nuts, and seemingly alot of oxidation. Taste was oily, acrid roast, some cocoa, vanilla, soy, char, a bit of butter, and some tartness, followed by some alcohol. I think this has been on tap for a bit too long. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2007 On tap at the BBW as part of the sampler. Pours a deep black with a medium size creamy dark tan head that left some lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, some chocolate and caramel. Flavor had lots of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, kind of on the sweet side and not much in terms of hops in the flavor or aroma. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a thick brown head and nice lacing. Medium to full bodied with a smooth creamy texture. Flavor of chocolate cake, dark fruit, vanilla, and roasted malts. I like the level of residual sweetness. Bitterness is rather subdued on this one, as well as the burnt coffee traits, which works in the beer’s favor in my opinion. Sometimes I want to have an imperial stout, but without killing my palate. This beer does the trick. This is sort of a session Impy, and would be a good crossover beer for noobs. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 28, 2007 Dark, blackish pour with a roasty-chocolate aroma. Taste was nice and chocolatey with some coffee thrown in, but didn’t seem as smooth or well balanced as most good Impy stouts. A bit thin – not bad.
