fatty (363), Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, USA May 16, 2005 From the tap at BBW. Probably my favorite from the "sampler". Deep dark brown body with little head. Good mix of nutty and chocolate flavors. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 15, 2005 On tap at the Bethlehem Brew Works Brew Pub. Poured a dark brown with some red at the edges with a smaller sized off white head. No surprise here - nutty aromas and tastes with light chocolate. The hazelnut was not over done and worked well in this porter. biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA May 15, 2005 Had this last week with Jine. I could have sworn I rated this last year. Just to clarify, last year = incredibly sweet and rich hazlenut flavor, this year = not nearly as sweet. Last year’s version was a little too sweet to drink, though I found myself missing that this year. The mouthfeel was a little bit thick, and almost grainy. Good porter, though I think I preferred the old version. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA May 10, 2005 5.06.05 on tap at the Brew Works
Very deep dark color. Hazelnut flavor works, I like it, this was just a little thin though, otherwise, good stuff.
I was sitting here thinking the other ratings were from the past couple weeks...but no...they’re from a year ago.
Guess this year’s version is a little better
r464 (285), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 30, 2004 Dark, dark, dark with a very small head. Smooth and tasty, but with WAY too much hazelnut flavor. It just overpowers an otherwise nice porter. SETANTA (581), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 29, 2004 Intense hazelnut flavor imposed on a relatively light porter (low alcohol, low dark malt character). tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Mar 29, 2004 Only had a free sample of this one. Tasted very good, tho a tad on the sweet side. The bartender even warned me of the sweetness to prevent me from buying the whole thing and gave me a sample. I decided to have the Steelworker's Oatmeal Stout instead, and that has made all the difference. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 29, 2004 This may be the finest porter I've ever had. When I took my first sip, I said "Holy shit!". It's like drinking Godiva hazlenut-filled chocolate candy. The aroma is malty, with incredible hazlenut and slight hops odors. It pours very dark, with a medium sized head. It has overtones of hazlenut, chocolate, caramel, and peanut brittle. The finish is pure heaven, staying smooth as silk with a final burst of sweetness as it hits the back of your throat. I took a growler of this to go, and just thinking about it makes me want to drive the hour or so to get more. The only complaint I have, and it is a minor one, is that after 3 or 4 pints it gets a little sweet. If you live near BBW or love porters or "desserty" beers, you MUST try this one. Perhaps the most unique and enjoyable beer I have ever had the privilege of consuming.
