Cask sample at Volo Cask Days 2008. Deep amber, no head. Aroma of caramel malt with earthy, tea-like hops. Flavour is wonderfully balanced - a bit earthy, solid malt, nice hit of hops in the end. A really solid ESB, well done!

[1802-20081017] Cask. Smoky grainy earthy hops aroma. Hazy, amber red body with quick off-white bubbles. Mostly midnotes of earthy hops flavour with a citrus finish. Medium body. Drinkable, nothing out of the ordinary.

Cask, Volo Cask Days 2008. This one was actually better on day one than later days I think. Fiery orange copper, good sized white head, looked great Nice aroma - more hops than expected, lots of malt. Taste is good - very bitter, astringent, over a light to medium body. Maybe an ESB should have a b it more body, otherwise, they nailed this one and it was perfectly suited for cask. Nice job Nickel Brook!

Cask. At Volo Cask Days 2008. Cloudy deep amber with an average frothy head. Dry leafy aroma or resin and black tea. Tastes the same - dry, and tea-like, bitter in the finish. Light of body, mildly astringent, quick finish with the bitterness more in the linger. Just okay, not really malty enough for an ESB.

Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2008’. Pours a hazy orange-copper with a spare diminishing bubbly white head. Aroma of caramel malt and light herbal hops, a bit buttery too. Slightly watery flavour of light hops, toffee and a light bitter finish. Average bodied. Just O.K.

A reasonable average for style, mislabelled as the KLB Pale, Cask Days 2008. Average looks, faintest of hop aroma, below average mouthfeel. Decent bitterness there. I still think this brewery can do better for an ESB.

2008-10-18. Copper amber body is near headless. (3+) Interesting hop aroma, lightly herbal and herbaceous hops. (6+) Similar hops in the flavour, lightly herbal, pleasant light bitterness throughout. Average to light bodied palate. Had this both days, first day was horrible, second day was decent. Apparently the first day they had mislabeled the casks, and the chunky mess was actually the KLB Pale? Cask @ Volo Cask Days 2008
