Some nutty notes with good cherry backing that I get some pit notes from. Well, I should go back to smelling it...at any rate the cherry comes through but it isn’t all that great. Some caramel malt and hints of the barrel with some twan to it. It smells pretty nice. after4ever (2822), Brier, Washington, USA

Nose is of sour cherries, oak, and some of that powdered soap that’s in the rest stop bathroom... But not in a bad way... Weird. Dark red pour, lots of floaties. Tart cherries, oak, and some light soap. Sour is soft. Wood creates a dryness in ther finish. Decent stuff imo. Sharp carbonation. SuzyGreenberg (1408), Seattle, Washington, USA

Dark reddish orange with slight haze and cream colored head; cherry purée and creamy malt; sharp, fresh cherry flavors; light bodied and pretty much a straight up cherry fruit beer tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2009 Bottle, thanks Matt. Murky dark reddish brown with a small white head and suspended floaties - tons of ’em. Aroma of sour cherries, wet wood, and a hint of caramel. Taste - not bad. Lots of sourness up front mixed with lots of caramel malt sweetness. Vanilla from the oak as well is well integrated. A really woody finish with warming alcohol as well (bottle has it labeled as 6%). Yeah, this one really works after a few slow sips - there are a lot of pieces here and they just about come together - this could have gone seriously wrong, but it holds it together and produces one of the more interesting and challenging Ontario brews out there right now. Well done Nickel brook, this one is quite an interesting achievement! bhensonb (4369), Woodland, California, USA

Pours a very reddish, hazy amber with a large frothy beige head. Aroma of reddish fruit. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is cherry, mild funk, and something like cherry pit. Then it goes all oaky astringent. Oh. Bottle says oak aged. Finish is funky, oaky cherry, but not so strong my mouth can’t stand it. Bottom line: Do whatever you need to do to get this. It’s not a Belgian kriek, but it’s damn tasty. Arguably the issue is that the particular cherries are a bit sweeter than the sour Belgian. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA

Aroma obvious of cherries, dried fruits, some malt, and a little floral hops. Flavor is quite tart, decent bit of funk, a little wood, spices, slightly sweet, and vinegar. Finishes creamy and dry.
