Sammy (3076), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 2, 2008 On-tap at Volo. An opaque yellowish body with retaining nominal white head. Creamy mouthfeel (isn’t everything at Volo) and certainly fresh. A significant but not bold smattering of tabbacco and some smoke, well malted. Drinkable for a refreshing beer though not overally satisfying nor a great representation of the style.
MrManning (1430), London, Ontario, Canada Feb 15, 2008 Bottle from John, thank you very much!- Mahogany body pours a beige frothy cap with good lace. Toasty, nutty, quite the malty nose with a bit of vanilla, smoke and wood. Sweet fruity flavour profile with subtle smoke and burnt caramel. The finish is a touch watery, but you also can’t tell it is 7.6%. Thanks John. shintriad (687), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 21, 2007 Tap at Volo. I must be having a seizure because "I smell burnt toast..." Some smoke and caramel malts along with a bit of a metallic or plasticky aroma, which matches the aftertaste. Woody, a bit yeasty, kind of muddled overall. Bonus points for the full body. JoeMcPhee (3692), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 11, 2007 Tap at Volo. Deep amber beer. Aroma of toasted malt, light caramel and cereal, fruity apricot/apple esters wit a bit of sweet UK-ish malts. Orange peel and a bit of sweet breadiness. Orange and apricot flavour. Lean bitterness with a sweetish finish. Decent, if uninspired. Radek Kliber (3315), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 27, 2007 Tap @ Volo
Clear amber with neat tanned creamy top.
Rich, fruity character, slight sour notes, cherry, plums.
Creamy , fruit accented ale soft bodied. Not as clean executed as one might hoped.
