merlin48 (352), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle pours a rusty brown body with a small and quickly vanishing beige head. No lacing. Aroma of musty old oak logs, caramel, vinegar, and apple cider. Earthy and woody feel on the palate with subdued carbonation. Taste features very prominent oak tones, joined by sour cherry skins, apple cider, vinegar, and other tannins. Tastes more like a lambic than a sour ale. Alcohol is concealed very well. A pleasant experience.
WeeHeavySD (1863), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 5, 2008 750 from holiday wine cellar and bonus from tytoanderson. Pours deep brownish orange with a tan head. Nose is very very big yet its a restrained sourness. Taste is tart and sour and vinous. Not bad, pretty ince, and a hell of a lot of hidden alcohol. bu11zeye (3780), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 1, 2008 (750ml bottle, 2007 vintage) Pours a hazy amber body with a small beige head. Aroma of vinous, balsamic vinegar, leather, sour fruit, and oak. Flavor of sour cherry, oak, earthiness, vinous, and caramel malt. Nicely done! oh6gdx (6334), Vaasa, Finland Oct 1, 2008 Bottled@omhper-post-SBWF-1st-weekend tasting. Amber colour, small head. Aroma is very sour berries, some wood, mild spices and some acidic notes. Flavour is caramel, sourwood, some earthyness, mild spices and yeast. Quite dry finish. Bigtime sourness in the finish. BlackForestCO (549), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle thanks to tytoanderso, thanks Tyler. Poured a hazy reddish-copper color with a moderate off-white head that faded to a layer. Tart, funky aroma with some moderate yeast and a light fruitiness including some light cherry and a bit of citric acid. A bit of booze on the nose. Smooth, lightly tart entry with some citric fruitiness (soft lemon, a bit of orange peel) leading into a light spicy woodiness with some more fruits including apple amd some moderate yeastiness and a nice oak character that imparts a dryness on the palate. Soft carbonation with a nice tart bite. Thanks again Ty. JorisPPattyn (4500), Antwerpen, Belgium Sep 29, 2008 Nearly no head, hazy orange-amber. Very vinous, fruity, old brandy, bit woody. Sour-sweet, severy woody taste with ethanol and fusels just jumping out of the glass. Most amazing is the palate/mouthfeel, that is simply fruity as none: it’s like biting in an orange that has been lagered in a cask of old brandy, after being spiked with cloves, and being lightly smoked. Again a very impressive vintage by Jerôme. Merci au Capitaine - comme il sait, on ne doit jamais dire du mal d’une bière artisanale ;^}... c’est pas difficile ici!
