Pours a very cloudy brownish orange with a small collection of bubbles on the to that recedes quickly to nothing.
The aroma is fantastic with a hint of vinegar acidity up front with some cheese and tart fruits. There is some lightly toasted malts and dough in the background. There is some barnyard funk in the nose as well, though I think it’ll build more over time.
The taste is noticeably sweeter than the aroma with the tart fruits taking on a more sugar-coated character with maybe some green apples as well as tart cherries. The vinegar is less pronounced and there is a slightly sugary malt backbone underneath it all. The finish is slightly dry but not extremely funky yet.
The mouthfeel is slick with low carbonation and dry in the finish. The acidity is fairly light and doesn’t overpower the feel.
I just take for granted that I can buy these around here but this is the first time I’ve tasted one. All I can say is I will definitely be buying more of these as this is an excellent beer - very complex and drinkable. Highly recommended.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 19, 2009 When it pours there is a small head. But that fades rather quickly. The body is a murky, a bit still looking, with low clarity. The color is like cherry juice. Aroma is strong on the barrel aromas traditionally associated with a Flanders Red style. On top of that is some very nice tart fruit/cherry skins. It is also really, really musky. There is some alcohol and barrel alcohol coming though. However, it all melds well together and the alcohol works well. These Bon Chiens, as I have stated with previous vintages, are just Imperial Flanders Reds. Flavor is sweet and sour cherry with a sticky and musky aspect. Again, there is a bit of stingy, alcohol and tartness that mesh the two aspects (Imperial and Flanders Red). There is a good amount of sourness in the finish. Has a nice traditional aspect from the musky cherry and tartness/sourness with the new Imperial-type notes of alcohol and some stronger barrel.

It pours a hazy, orange body with no head or carbonation. Caramel aroma with citric fruits and brett. Some alcohol as well. Sweetness, caramel, citrusy sourness and brett in the mouth. Warming, full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Astringent and palate-cleansing. Acidic and malty finish. A quite lovely sour. 090822 Scauca (413), Lovere, Italy
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 29, 2009 Tap@The Dome. Hazy deep red with no head at all. The aroma is fruity, woody, leathery, vinous. Sour, lemony, fruity with a damn’ drying effect. No traces of that ABV. Light bodied, thin almost flat with a little astringent woody bitter end. Outstanding beer. Waiting for the Grand Cru barrels... Theis (3765), Denmark

Reddish brown color, slightly hazy. A small head quickly disappears.
The smell is of tart berries, perhaps some lemon and tart apples as well. Subtle malts and a decent amount of funk - mud and wet hay.
In the taste,sSome semi-sweet fruity notes and malts are quickly overshadowed by tart flavors and funky notes. The tartness is really good in this one, sharp and edgy, yet not puckering nor astringent. Perhaps a slight taste of vinegar. The finish is really dry with a decent amount of sweet alcohol, a hint of minerals and lingering tartness.
Medium body with semi-aggressive carbonation.
A good beer, quite interesting. It has an edgy character due to the way the tartness mixes with the aromas and the gentle sweetness. Would definitely have another.
