ruskiimperial (52), Richmond, Virginia, USA Oct 30, 2009 A very strange but interesing beer. The pour left a very thin head that also left a very sticky layer of lacing on the glass. Initial flavors on this one certainly come across as having some serious belgian wild yeasts. Hops come across as well, though I think its more on the aftertaste. The carbonation is very smooth, leaving behind a nice feeling on the lips. In the end, this beer really is an interesing combination of a rather sour and citrus like ale with some generous hop profile to keep the sourness at bay. Intruiging beer but not something to buy on a regular basis. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Oct 24, 2009 2006 750ml bottle... pours a deep murky light brown with a huge off white head... this bottle was a gusher.... flowed and flowed for a while.... some nice sour / funk aroma at first with some citrus hops... as time went on the funk faded away and the hops took over.... medium soft body with light sides and more yeasty citrus notes... a solid funky IPA.... but not worth the price tag... Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Oct 21, 2009 11.2oz swing top. Pours a swampy orange color with a ton of sediment, small off white film. Nose is really funky with a kind of weird fruity, yeasty hop combination. Flavor was also quite sweet and funky. A kind of yeast hop bitterness on the finish. One of the stranger beers I’ve ever tried, especially in the IPA category. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 6, 2009 2006 12 oz. bottle served in shaker (from Liquid Solutions)- A cause for a minor celebration since this brew puts my geo total at 50 different countries as determined by Ratebeer (WOOHOO!). Poured a murky (almost cider like quality) copper brown, creamy white head formed and laced nicely. Low to zero carbonation. Aroma of funk, cork, tart fruits, and a note of citrus. Hits the mouth with low-medium body, malt is in disguise with some very light floral, a light barnyard smell transformed to taste comes in the middle, finish has some mild pineapple and lasting funk. All over the map, but refined to limits. I really like it! Side note- getting to 50 different "countries" was relatively easy- did it by purchasing brews available locally and setting up maybe 4 or 5 different trades just for brews from different nations. As for the next 50- this is a marathon, not a sprint. But I’ll get there... AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Oct 1, 2009 2006 bottle.Hazy amber with a fleeting head. Nice aroma is mildly sour lemon with dry hay and mustard powder. Medium body. Lightly sweet n’ tart lemon flavor with dusty malt, dry hay wet wood and spicy hops, light oxidation. Different. azlondon (656), Fribourg, Switzerland Jul 4, 2009 Appearance: Cloudy, light brown. Lots of tan, longlived head.
Aroma: Tart fruit, citrus. Not pleasant.
Taste: Tart, quite sour. Fruit, hops. Disappointed.
Info: 750ml bottle, 4/7-2009 dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 2, 2009 33 cL swingtop from Once Upon a Vine South, Richmond, VA. Pours a fairly murky yellow-brown color with white floaties, some of them fairly large. Medium head with decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is citrus, light funk and light hop notes. Taste is quite funky with huge citrus notes, caramel and a slightly bitter, minty, leafy hop note in the finish. Some pineapple, berry and other fruits. Medium bodied. Just like most of their brews this one is odd, interesting and quite good. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Jun 30, 2009 (bottle thanks Joebrew!) Pours dark amber with a towering beige head that completely fills my excessively large novelty snifter. The smell is really just enjoyable, with some scents of dust, light funk, stale hops, lightly floral, rosehips, and a faint touch of barnyard as well. The taste is great too, with flavors of caramel, vanilla, lightly floral, with some spices I can’t identify. The finish possesses a bit of yeastiness and a faint bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is lively. Don’t know why this is listed as an IPA, as it says it’s a Biere de Garde on the label, and it certainly tastes as such. Either way, this is a really enjoyable beer, and one I hope to try again. Thanks again Joe!
