Thanks to after4ever for this one. This brought back some college memories. It started to gush big time and filled the Duvel glass really fast... at which point my only option was to chug foam until I found another glass to pour it in. Ridiculous carbonation here, and it’s been cellared for over a month now. Murky amber body with lots of floaties. Aroma has a lemony tartness with notes of caramel and various fruits from berries to oranges. Tart sweetness in the finish, medium bodied. Once it stopped fizzing everywhere this became a very enjoyable beer. The price tag is scary though. The tartness and carbonation worked for me.

2006 Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, rocky, off-white, fully lasting. Body is hazy dark amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (cooked caramel, cookie, toasted bread), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), lightly hoppy (flowers), with notes of cave earth, peach/nectarine, light note of alcohol, pomegranate, candied tropical fruits. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Really fruity and enticing aroma, very very sexy. The flavor isn’t as rich and satisfying as Bavaisienne, but this was really delicious.

750. 2006. Beer is hazy medium brown with a huge, frothy, off-white, diminishing, mostly lasting head.
The aroma is really pleasing. Malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, creme brulee, shortbread cookie; Hoppy with moderate notes of herb, lemon zest; Yeasty with moderate note of basement; Moderate-to-heavy notes of brown sugar, warm alcohol. Light notes of tropical fruit, spicy pear. Less-than-trace note of rubber.
The flavor is heavily bitter, moderately sweet with a long, slightly warm, moderately bittersweet finish. Top-soil & anise in the retros.
The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.

(750ml bottle) Enormous beige head atop a hazy amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, herb, orange zest. Taste is medium sweet, herb spicy, herbal, some caraway, grassy, light caramel, peach. Some floral once it warms. Moderately dry finish with light alcohol warming. Medium body, holds the alcohol well.

A rich, hazy maroon colour and a very large, red-tan creamy head make for a beautiful introduction to this beer. The aroma isn’t one to smack you across the room with an abundance of malts or hops, but the depth and nuance are spectacular. There’s a heavily toasted edge to begin the affair along with the nutty pungency of black walnuts. Spicy caraway seeds and orange rind add a bit of zing to the aroma. Bright, but never overpowering, the floral hop aroma builds another layer of complexity. The prelude is completed with a soft, musty yeast presence and a fleeting hint of red wine vinegar. Toasty and spicy to start, the flavor shows moderate initial sweetness balanced by a muted fruity acidity. Meandering to an off-dry finish, earthy yeast and floral hop elements appear, resolving into a walnut-laden aftertaste. A velvety texture and bustling, pinpoint carbonation moves this medium-bodied beauty along briskly. Quite a lovely affair--I definitely need to find another bottle for Thanksgiving dinner! 75 cL bottle, Burgundy glass.

Bottled. Hazy orange colour, mediumsized white head, with stuff floating around. Aroma is sour fruits with earthy hints. Flavour is fruits, plum, slight metallicness and enourmous sourness. Pleasant!
