| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Hazy golden-amber body with a big, frothy cream-colored head. Rich and warm dark candy sugar and caramel aroma plus alcohol and earthy hops in the background. Flavor has qualities of menthol and plastic plus medium sweet caramel, figs, leather, and furniture polish, and a medium phenolic/bitter finish. Overall the flavor is intense and somewhat medicinal. Strikes me as a hoppy and phenolic dubbel.

The aroma has pineapple, lime, and grassy hops. High carbonation and btterness - cookiesh dough flavour with some pear skins and mild toastiness. Pretty good but I found it difficult to pinpoint the specifics. SSSteve (2087), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 2, 2007 Pours dark orange with a ridiculously large light tan head. The aroma is very spicy, earthy, barnyard, sharp fruits and citrus. Medium body with semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts sharp, tart, dirty and earthy - very crisp. The finish is sour, spoiled, veggie and spice. For a highly priced and rated biere de garde I expected far far better than this. Very dissapointing. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 22, 2009 750ml bottle, 2006 vintage. Tart, spicy aroma, very lightly sweet and toasty with notes of tangerine, pear, citrus, musty wood, dried flowers and some light brown sugar. Hazy orange-red color with a lasting, thinly foamy, off-white head. Flavor is immediately tart and citric, mellowing a bit to show some background sweetness, spice, tropical fruits and pepper, as well as a heavy dosage of earthy, musty yeast towards the much drier finish, which seems to show a brief metallic glint. Lingering herbal and citric quality. Moderately acidic, fairly effervescent, very slightly warming and dry on the palate, body is medium-full. Kind of an odd one, but not unwelcome. To call this an IPA seems a bit of a stretch, though -- the bottle refers to itself as "Rousse de garde". sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma, fruity, some yeast, and some caramel notes. Flavor, spicy notes, caramel, some heat, and some fruits as well. Some slight woody notes, interesting. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2009 11.2oz swing top. Pours a swampy orange color with a ton of sediment, small off white film. Nose is really funky with a kind of weird fruity, yeasty hop combination. Flavor was also quite sweet and funky. A kind of yeast hop bitterness on the finish. One of the stranger beers I’ve ever tried, especially in the IPA category.
