Commercial Description:
Silver medal at Soleure's extreme beer fest 2007. An extreme black beer whose nose goes toward pepper, vanilla, ashes, tobacco and fresh hops. It reaches the palate all in softness, but quickly becomes intensely bitter, though not very dry. Long and satisfying finish.
This Cuvée was created in the honor of the Jurrassian revolutionist Alex Le Rouge. Enjoy this wonderful Cuvée at about 10°-12° Celsius (50°-53°F), with a crunch of bitter Chocolate or a Cigar. Cuvée Alex Le Rouge can be sequestrated for a few years in a cellar. Ingredients: water, barley malts, hops, cane sugar, yeast, Serawak pepper, Russia tea, Bourbon vanilla.

This one is pretty unique. Very dark, near opaque black, not much head, light carbonation. Aroma isn’t as complex as expected, with some dark caramelly roast and a hint of vanilla. Full semi-roasted palate, with a notable tanginess, almost tart, heading toward the finish. Finish is long and bitter, drying, mildly tannic.

330ml swing top bottle, served in a Duvel tulip. I love how there is a bubble on the label that so proudly proclaims "Extremely Complex". Pours black with a thin ring of tan foam. Smells of burnt wood, Belgian style yeastiness, cherry candy, and chocolate. Taste is very tart and smoky at first sip, some cherry emerges then wood. Leaves some bitter chocolate flavor as you swallow. Thin spritzy mouthfeel with a relatively dry finish. Enjoyable but VERY unusual.

33cl bottle. Interesting name, right of the Jurassian mountain range. Abv on bottle is 10.276% Pours black with beige head. Aroma is yeasty (almost cheese like) and hoppy as well as some good roastiness. Taste is roasted (chocolat/coffee malts), some light bitterness, good floral and spicy presence. Russian tea is characterized by citrus fruit. Alcohol is well present. An interesting brew from a great brewery.

Pretty dark with just glimmers of auburn light. The head was absolutely awesome, thick, grayish-dark tan, and milky. The laceing was full on brush strokes of tan paint along the side of the glass. The nose is a fucking novel. It starts with subtle tart vinous notes, then overlapping this is vanilla and spice, and more tart grape fumes and even some chocolate. Prickly carbination. Mouthfeel is definitely on the tart side, but the overall thickness of the beer itself is on the watery and thin side, making the tartness somewhat lacking in foundational backing, . Its definitely smooth though and significantly tart with some roasted malt notes, raisin, coffee, black olives, and slight chocolate. I’m not buying the alcohol being 10.28%, it is nowhere to be found whatsoever. This May age nicely but due to thin body, its hard to tell. It Reminds me a little bit of Scooners Vindication, but with a different kind of tartness.

Darker pour with an aroma that is bold, spicy, and roasty. Sugary and vanilla sweetness starts out ok, but gets a bit messy in the finish. Smooth, but off balance. OK, but not for the price or style.
