This black beer poured with no head, just a few bubbles. There is an aroma of cloves and cinnamon with a matching flavor. There is some dark fruit and way too much spice, creating a harshness that is hard to take. And it doesn’t taste any better when served warm - I tried it. This one just doesn’t live up to this brewery’s standards.

Bottle, 7%. At room temperature is has a mild cherry aroma, sweetish, berryish. Dark blood red colour, unclear. No head. The flavour is sweet with a distinct cinnamon aftertaste. Mulled, its aroma is a bit more pungent, not more pleasant, really. Same colour, of course, perhaps a bit of frothy head. The flavour is less sweet, a little bitter, seems to come from a sort of berry. The cinnamon flavour is a lot less noticable when the beer is hot.

750ml Bottle (2008 Vintage): Served hot as per instructions. Sweet aroma of apples, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg. Poured dark brown in color. Cloudy. Not sparkling. No lacing. Flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of apples, cinnamon, light cardamom, honey, and a hint of tea. Light to medium body. Lightly chalky texture. No carbonation. Sweet apple and cinnamon finish.

Dark brown in colour with no head and no lacing. The aroma is very spicy, lots of cloves, liquorice, light sweetness at times, some plums. The flavour is again very spicy, more cloves and cinnamon, black liquorice and berries. Spicy mouthfeel, medium/light body, mild carbonation. Finishes spicy.

The spices dominate this one from start to finish. Very overpowering at times.

750ml bottle obtained in a trade with TheCheeseMan, thanks Dan.

I have read others reviews on this beer and I am absolutely in shock. Honestly, I do get what this beer is supposed to be. I commend the brewery’s attempt to do something a little more on the fringe. But people please, just stop rating beers on their novelty effect instead of their merit. Let me see a show of hands-- how many people would honestly want to drink this over a good mulled wine? It is simply second rate. I think it might be the juniper berries that are bad here. Anyway, this just wasn’t for me.

Cinnamon sticks and cloves and nutmeg bursting from the glass. Last time I smelled a beer like this is was one of the dark ones from Old Hansa in Tallinn. Way zesty spice, the malts are dark and fruity, but thin. Alcoholic warmth takes control late.

Served warm. hazy and dark brown. Very spicy aroma. Nutmeg, cinnamon, spice, pie crust, mincemeat. Relatively thin. Smooth, a little bit of apple juice in the flavors, some berry, maybe even blueberry. Not as spicy as it smells, just a mellow nice warm beer.

I don’t understand why the average for this is only 3.2. This beer was delicious. Nice smooth mouth feel. Dark brown pour with no head. Nice spices on the nose. Liquorish, nutmeg, lacto and other spices along with a touch of sweet candied fruit in the flavor.
