Beerlando (1135), Orlando, Florida, USA May 9, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. This is a strange one. Pours a clear, medium orange color with a thin crown of tan foam. A swirl of the glass reveals thick, droopy legs that meander their way back into the body, leaving minimal amounts of spotting behind. The nose shows sweet candy sugar, caramel, dry, wheat-like grains, and a mild amount of grassy hops. Flavors include a surprising but welcomed addition of candied orange peel to accompany the caramel sugars. The dry grains really seem out of place here. The sweetness is also a bit much for my liking. Medium-full, syrupy body. Alcohol isn’t really detectable. Decent brew, but lacking in several areas.
Dickinsonbeer (2466), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 15, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a peachy light amber with a thin lasting head. Aorma is very fruity, estery, peach and pear- tropical fruits, fruity bubblegum notes and some apple cider- but not green apple acetaldehyde. Good sweet malty flavor- tons of sweet syrupy caramel sugar, light toasted bread, tons of fruits, apple, pear, and toffee. Good body and finish. after4ever (1632), Brier, Washington, USA Jun 16, 2008 12-oz. Thanks, Glouglouburp! Pours dark burnished murky brown with golden brown highlights. Virtually no head or lace, just a bit of grayish film. Nice forward sharp orange pith, caramel, and brown bread nose. Medium body, some soft carb. Brown bread, caramel, and oranges on the mid-palate. Peppery finish. Nice stuff. GAManiac (200), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 9, 2008 Pours a deep clear amber with a small bubbly head that dissipates almost immediately and leaves little lacing. The smell is very unique with a big candied barley sugar and toffee smell that complements the caramel malt undertones. Faint bit of hops in the nose as well, though subtle. Like the smell, a very distinctive sugary barley and malt taste. The sugary candy sweetness dominates but the boozy background is present throughout. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly syrupy with minimal carbonation. The big candied sugar presence and syrupy mouthfeel keep the drinkability down a little for me, but this is an extremely interesting and unique beer. KingpinIPA (792), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 26, 2008 Thanks to Glouglouburp. Copper color. Smell of malt, brown sugar, hops, caramel and some spice. Taste of malt, hops, caramel, toffee and bread. cmillward (143), Orlando, Florida, USA May 11, 2008 Thanks CheeseMan! Reddish amber, with a very small head, didn’t stick around long. Smells of brown sugar, citrus hops low in the mix, some cherry impressions. Malty and caramel, some hops at the finish. A little too flat. Decent, but not very barleywine-like except in carbonation.
