Commercial Description:
Ale brewed with fig juice. A traditional style named for John Darby, preacher of temperance whose parishioners were oddly moved by a "soft drink" they insisted was just fig juice...

Another explosive beer from Brasserie de Blaugies. When opened it just came foaming out, which gives it a huge head when first poured, but the head collapses only leaving slight curtains on the glass, but there are yeast specs in the off-white head. And the beer is an unclear orange. The aroma is quite sweet and quite fruity combined with hints of spice and yeast, but also a touch of dustiness. The flavor is sweet fruity combined with a slight acidity like a grapefruit, and is quite spicy with coriander and cloves. The end is very dry - spicy and woody. I don’t pick up the figs.

(Bottle 75 cl) Golden with a gigantic head and the typical Blaugies super carbonation. Lovely dry with some undefinable spices - none that appears very fig-like though. Actually this is more down Orval alley, although without the refined complexity of this beer. But still a nice one. 111097

Bottled. Cloudy golden with rich head and lots of sediment. Fruity, lightly raisiny aroma. Sweetish with pleasant malt and yeast character. The body is however a bit thin, an the character of the fig juice and hardly noticable. Subtle, and a bit lacking in body.

Bottle, 5.8%. Very weak aroma, slightly cellary, moldy. Muddy orange colour, small floaties. The flavour has a little citric fruitiness with a hint of mold and cellar. A quite subtle beer, but good. Very well-balanced, even though I would prefer it more acidic. 7 3 7 4 18
