Commercial Description:
Made in the tradition of artisan brewers, Sans Culottes is a blonde beer sur lie. Probably the best bière de garde for the uninitiated to start with. Packed in a 75 cls bottle with a wired-down cork, Sans Culottes sports a brilliantly eye-catching label showing a revolutionary soldier proudly wearing his pantalons, having wisely forsaken his culottes for the coming struggle.

Light orange/copper, lively carbonation, creamy layer of off white head. Aroma of yeast, must, some sourness, and light sugary fruit. Taste is roasty caramel malt, a touch of bitter hops, and musty yeast. Medium body, well carbonated, dry finish. Excellent.

In the bottle at Bill B.’s birthday party. Golden yellow with a BIG white head fed by large bubbles. Has a wonderful honey aroma. Fine up-front bitterness. The alcohol palate seems much larger than 7%. Has a pear-like finish. This beer certainly grows on you as it warms.

Damn good biere de garde, had at Beer Bistro. Spicey yeasty and smooth drinking. Nice permanent foaminess built in. Nice cidery colour. Some complexity to the taste,

Very Large flat white pillowy head with hay light hay coloring. Very dank strong bready smell. Caramel sweetness very light on the palate. Extremely light and drinkable. A metallic grainy caramel taste. The smell is more beer smelling then the taste which is the caramel smooth light taste. Excellent for the style.

Bottle. Nice looking, hazy gold with a huge white head. Promising aroma has sweet malts, light fruits, hops and some spices. Taste is sweet malts, apples and spices. Full bodied, moderate carbonation and a bit of warming alcohol in the finish. Excellent.

Excellent looking pour, a deep golden body with lazy carbonation and a sustained, fluffy off-white head. The aroma is a fruity, sweet malt, yeasty with light fruits and spicy seasonings. This is smooth and creamy in the mouth, coating it with a light oily feeling. The flavor continues with the sweet malt, cherries and apples, yeast, and some spicing... notably licorice comes to the forefront, but not overwhelmingly. The finish is lightly sweet, oily, and contains a hint of the alcohol that catches up to you after finishing a 750 ml bottle. This is a must-repeat ale.

Bouteille, Bella Vino, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
