Commercial Description:
Made in the tradition of artisan brewers, Sans Culottes is a blonde beer sur lie. Probably the best bière de garde for the uninitiated to start with. Packed in a 75 cls bottle with a wired-down cork, Sans Culottes sports a brilliantly eye-catching label showing a revolutionary soldier proudly wearing his pantalons, having wisely forsaken his culottes for the coming struggle.

Probably the Best Biere De Garde I have had to date. Omnipresent malts that ring forth of tastes that border on apples, pears and peaches... bubbly with a raspberry tinge -- like angel food. Fabulous!

A farmhouse, wet grass clipping, and squash-like aroma, with some sweet floral scents and a little honey. Mouthfeel is watery, a little starchy and a little sour but with mostly a flavor of sweet flower petals... can’t say it’s appealing, resembling the taste from sucking on a bar of soap. Overall it’s oily, soapy and grassy, and just not hitting the spot for me.

750 ml. green champagne style bottle. Corked and caged. No freshness date seen anywhere. Loud pop releases cork. Poured out a hazy, light golden yellow, with a neverending white, meringue like head. Aromas are of wildflower honey, fresh citrus fruits, farmhouse aromas, and sweet Timothy grass. Tastes are of citrus fruits, yeasty biscuits, honey, slight caramels, and malts -a - plenty. Mouthfeel is slightly thin, but rich all the same. Effervescent carbonation dances lightly on the tongue. Finishes rich, and sweet. A top notch farmhouse ale from France.

Original Rating (9-4-8-5-18=4.4): Milky, creamy, sweet, doughy yeast and cheese-like aroma. Opaque golden orange with great white head that recedes to a lasting finger of cover with some lacing. Lightly spicy, sweet, creamy and yeasty flavours in this straight-forward but very enjoyable lightly tart flavour. Spices linger on the tongue. Soft palate, creamy texture and gently prickly mouthfeel. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere.Rerate (6-4-6-4-12=3.2): Very raw, grainy aroma with plenty of herbal and earthy character. Lightly hazy golden body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, white head that recedes to a lasting caover and coats the glass nicely. Flavour strikes a balance between sweet and spicy with plenty of bitterness and that same raw grain character as noted in the aroma along with herbal, minty, earth tones. Fairly sweet aftertaste. Dry medium body with very strong carbonation that open the tastebuds. While I certainly don’t dislike this, it’s not at all what I remember... and it certainly isn’t approaching the excellence I originally noted.

THis brew pours with a cloudy golden body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is sweet with notes of candy sugar and a slight cinamon note. The flavor is very similar with a slight tin note. Medium bodied, slightly dry and smooth.
