| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 31, 2007 750, corked and baled. Pours a bright gold, kind of on the medium side hue but very translucent (and crystal clear). Plenty of loose and sloppy platinum blonde suds and steady rising carb. Equally at home for a festive occasion or a more stately dinner, or somewhere in between. Lots of sticky-looking lace, so maybe not the best choice for something *super-formal*, but quite nice for hanging out. Thin, wateryish body. Plenty of fizz but not at all gassy in the mouth. Sweeter and fruitier than your favorite saison for sure. Still has a tidy crispness to it though, and finishes with a bracingly earthy nutty toastiness. Good stuff but hardly the Dupont of BdGs. Nice lace, small head, copper liquid of surprising clarity. Dominating wood on plate. Nice. Pours a golden yellow with a billowing head that dissipates quickly. Laces the glass nicely. Aromas pleasanly remind me of wet grass in the morning, a little musty, but not offensive. Hint of ripe apple. Taste is malty and sweet with a creamy mouthfeel, carbonation is lively but not sharp on the tongue. Finishes very clean. The local store seems to get a new saison or biere de garde every time I stop in. Since they all look interesting I end up trying them. It’s a good thing this one was only $8.99 so I could save money for the next one. The bottle enough merits giving this one a second look. If you are in the mood for something lighter give it a try.
Aroma / Appearance - The golden yellow body is very fair and light. If not for the nose it could almost be mistaken for champagne. A one finger bleach white head made its way to the top to shelter the liquid underneath. The nose was granny smith apples, hay and sour lemons. Yeast and a hint of barnyard complete the experience.
Flavor / Palate - An earthiness plays well against the apple pie and nutmeg flavors. Honey and almonds wrap up the profile before a dry sandpapery finish. It’s almost like a cider. The aftertaste of dusty old barns keeps things honest. The alcohol becomes stronger after the second glass but it was still fun to knock this one off solo. Tmoney99 (4785), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Bottle from Bello Vino. Poured clear amber with a large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate tart citrus spice aroma. Light to medium body with a lively carbonation. Medium sweet balanced flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. I would recommend this to a freind. Drink4Satan (586), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 8, 2007 Shared with Alldaydrinker. Pours an effervescent clear golden body with a medium, fizzy off-white head. The aroma is initially floral and fruity hops, but then moves to griany, sweet, and musty scents. Ripe fruit, lemon grass, peat, leather and cookie. The flavour profile is similar to that found in the nose, with the addition of some barnyard funk. The finish in the flavour is spicy, like peppery corriander. Spritzy palate allows for great drinkability and the dry, chalky finish leaves you needing another sip every other second to keep your mouth moist. Alldaydrinker (558), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA
