Aroma of biscuit, sweet fruit and caramel, some toffee. Flavors match aroma fairly closely, with accented caramel, molasses, brown sugar and soil notes. Finishes smooth and long, lending overall similarity to Bieropholie’s Scotch Ale. But this is much better balanced.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2008 In short: An strong fruity dark ale of some kind. Very good but very unusual for an Alt.
How: Bottle 341ml. Drank many many of them. This rating for a 2 months old bottle.
The look: Cloudy brownish-amber topped by a very small beige head
In long: Nose has lots of raisins and some barley candy. Very fruity with strong yeasty notes, the beer almost felt like a Strong Belgian Dark Ale. Nuts wrapped in raisins, molasses, fruity caramel, dark fruits. Big body. The beer is rather sweet, some brown sugar notes. A bit too sweet for me but very tasty. Light acidity. Unusual for the style. Throws everything I thought I understood about Altbier out the window. Alcohol is a little apparent. Almost a sipper. In the world of dry session Altbiers this one stands out like a big tattooed hairy biker at a Celine Dion concert.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2008 My Bottom Line:
The luscious mouthfeel of this souped-up Altbier provides plenty of caramel atop the cracker-like base maltiness, leading to a spicy hop finish and much rejoicing.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the hazy mahogany.
-The nose is rather timid (might be a sign of oncoming age), offering malt crackers and distant caramel.
-Carbonation is effervescent but soft.
-Hops are a factor mostly in the last half. I would have expected more in the nose.
-A polite fruitiness roams within (berries?).
-This is quite drinkable for its size. Its body tends to make it a sipper though.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Bottle (341ml). Pours a very deep amber-red with a small diminishing tan head -- you can’t see through this sucker! Aroma: Whoa, that’s interesting! How do I describe this? Sweet & malty with chocolate mint or liquor filled chocolates, dark fruit, alcohol, nuts, spices and more -- this is a hard one to nail, it’s a little odd and there’s lots going on there. Flavour of slightly roasted caramel malt, hops, fruit, a bit of alcohol, notes of chocolate and coffee and even some spices -- I was not expecting this, this is tasty stuff. Medium bodied. This is great, I’m not sure it’s an Altbier (it kind of reminds me a bit of an Old Ale) but it’s quite unique and enjoyable. JCB (1767), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Bottle from Glouglouburp - thanks, Dany! Dark, cloudy amber pour - it wants to be brown, like a changing leaf. The nose is quite big and sweet, and unexpectedly, I got some distinct chocolate notes in there. Lots of sweetness, malts and fruits, but also some old ale qualities somehow. Very rich beer, almost too much so for the style perhaps, and some acrid notes in the finish. Good to try, though, and I’d happily have it again. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2008 bottle by way of glouglouburp... pours a hazy deep red amber with a beige head. pleasantly rich aroma is full of chocolate, brown sugar, malt powder, toasted nuts, raisins and other hard to pin point dried fruits. the palate is quite thick with sweetness but it is in no way annoying or unwelcome... flavors of caramelized nuts, vanilla, brown sugar, malt powder, warm spices and a lightly bitter dry finish. there’s a strange sourness/acidity throughout much like green grapes which cleans up any sugar left on the finish. chocolate shows back up in the aftertaste. medium to full body with nice soft carbonation.
