Commercial Description:
"An "EinsundHälfteBock". According to us, more than a regular Bock and, according to those who have decided to put beers in tight, little categories, it is not quite strong enough to really be called a doppelbock. Brown beer of German inspiration. A 6% abv lager. A full-bodied personality with dominant and complex malt flavors and, oh!, a hop presence which is...um...not quite shy! We broke the style mold for the great pleasure of hop heads. This is Bièropholie!

Last batch brewed in december 2004 and bottled in january 2005. Next batch will be in january 2008.

Getting ready for Montreal beer #2. 341ml, 2005 vintage. It has had some time to cool out of the fridge and the bottle is sweating up a storm. Served at 51.6°/~11°C in my NB worthy glass. The beer pours brown with a dark red tint and a small, mocha colored hazy head. The beer coats my glass. The aroma is plums, prunes, raisins, along with some chocolate and caramel notes. Kinda flowery. Big body. The initial taste is dark fruits, cocoa, light molasses, and malt. The midtaste is nutty, caramelly, slighty bitter with some alcohol presence (not overly so) and the finish is lingering dark fruits and cocoa. Some hops present, hinted at with the flowery smell and light bitterness, but it is nothing more than a small part of the flavor profile. The finish is clean and non-cloying. This is a tasty beer. This brewery has some good stuff. Thanks to beerbuzzmotreal.

Je n’aime pas les bock, j’ai fait un essais. Elle me semble ordinaire par rapport aux autres bock que j’ai déjà gouté. Les autres me semblaient avoir plus de caractère.

The bottle looks like it has been stored away for years, yet it states 2005 on the label and there is a crisp carbonation snap when the bottle is opened. Likely the reason the box was opened and inspected by the border (the scent of this one having lost an ounce or so), yet thankfully allowed to pass (a close call). Light chestnut color with a hint of orange when held to the light. Tall dense and creamy tan head. Interesting aromas, some chocolate and toasted mixed with some grassy and herbal hops. Parts are great and some parts don’t seem to mix that well. In other words the parts are better then the sum in the nose. Nice curtains of lace on the side of the glass as the head recedes slowly. Rich, thick and creamy in feel. This is one of the best looking and feeling brews that I have had in a while. Dark chocolate. with prunes, and mild tobacco; a touch of wood peat and earth make for a nice start for any brew. No the hops are not shy in the profile, but they don’t force themselves one you either. The malt is there and hops are present to keep the malt from getting to syrupy and sweet. Dry linger with a mild black malt bite. This works for me. I would love to have this on tap in my basement. Excellent choice beerbuzzmotreal, Thanks!

12oz bottle. Medium tan and brown head on top of a dark brown body with a bit of light shining through. It has a robust nose full of bourbon, wood, scotch, smoke and sharp maple and alcohol. There are some light butter and fuesal notes present as well, with a meaty motor oil off-aroma that is fairly unpleasant. Robust dates and nuts mixed with some maple, light wood smoke, and some liquid smoke or steak flavors. Well balanced, lightly bitter and dry, and also lightly sweet. Well made.
