Well, mine didn’t have the gold foil in the picture, waaaahhhh. Poured great in an Altenmuster glass a very darr brown with a tiny bit of red. Nice thick tan head. Smells like a Chunky candy bar with chocolate, nuts and raisins. Taske is thick and sweet and since it’s only 5%, you can taste the alcohol. Could very possible be the best Bock I have ever tasted. Mellow hop bite. Gimme another.

Carmel aroma with hops right at you. Dirty cream lace throughout. bitter Hoppy offset by chocolate, brown sugar, malty, carmel, tabacco munchy mouthfeel. Long chewy leafy hoppy chewy finish.

2005 bottle consumed 4/14/05. Pour reveals a dark mahogany/chestnut brown body, thick and lustrous looking. The head is large and light tan-beige. Great retention and plenty of lacing. Aroma of sweet nutty malt, mild chocolate, tons of bocky lager notes, molasses, brown sugar, maple and light roast. Flavor begins sweet and has a hugely creamy mouthfeel. Wonderfully full of malt, it ranges from chocolate and roast to prunes and molasses. All the while, the yeast is quite apparent, imparting a lightly wine-like character, lightly fruity and a touch sour. Hops are earthy on the finish, but mainly do not play in to the beer much as the commercial description would lead you to believe (must be referring to the 2004). Body is full, rich and creamy. One of the best bocks I can remember having. If the 2004 is supposedly better than the 2005, then I’m in for a real treat when I open the 2004.

341ml brown bottle, from gilvanblight. Near opaque dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Creamy tan head initially forms, slowly thins. Aroma of nuts, dark malt, caramel. Dark malt flavour, chocoalte notes and caramel. Body was full, lgihtly carbonated. Raosty long finish with coffee.

Un peu amère, sucré, c’est un goût assé intéressant. Le mouton est joli aussi.

Extremely dark ruby to the point that it’s brown in any other place than direct light. The head is creamy and tan, comprised of miniscule bubbles. Lacing is lacking. Aromas are beautiful. Dark malts are aplenty. From chocolate to coffee. Fruits come out making it a bit vinous. Earthy hops. Just a hint of soy sauce. The hops come out in the flavor much more. Bitter at first and then slowly descends to a more earthy appeal. Roasted malts come out along with the chocolate. Hints of coffee as well. The palate is simply amazing. Smooth and creamy. Fluffy almost. This beer finishes well blended with hops and malts. Definately one of the finer bocks I’ve had. Thanks Rasta!

The bottle looks like it has been stored away for years, yet it states 2005 on the label and there is a crisp carbonation snap when the bottle is opened. Likely the reason the box was opened and inspected by the border (the scent of this one having lost an ounce or so), yet thankfully allowed to pass (a close call). Light chestnut color with a hint of orange when held to the light. Tall dense and creamy tan head. Interesting aromas, some chocolate and toasted mixed with some grassy and herbal hops. Parts are great and some parts don’t seem to mix that well. In other words the parts are better then the sum in the nose. Nice curtains of lace on the side of the glass as the head recedes slowly. Rich, thick and creamy in feel. This is one of the best looking and feeling brews that I have had in a while. Dark chocolate. with prunes, and mild tobacco; a touch of wood peat and earth make for a nice start for any brew. No the hops are not shy in the profile, but they don’t force themselves one you either. The malt is there and hops are present to keep the malt from getting to syrupy and sweet. Dry linger with a mild black malt bite. This works for me. I would love to have this on tap in my basement. Excellent choice beerbuzzmotreal, Thanks!

Dark ruby mahogany color with lots of large bubbled head, very sticky, almost like sparkled. Moderate dissolved carbonation that really comes out to accentuate the nose. The aroma is nicely roasted and fruity with a mild mocha and earthy bread notes. The fruit is apricot and papaya. The flavor is mild and smooth with a focus on the dark malts and perfectly measured body with no up front sweetness nor puckering dry. A touch of astringency to finish complements the refreshing qualities of this lord of bock beers. Damn, this is really good! Thanks Rastacouere!
