Commercial Description:
Brewed with a lager yeast. (Note by the brewer: I don't know from where that information came from, but it's wrong)

Bottled for Dépanneur Le Gobelet, as Paysanne, St-Charles Brune, and Médiévale. It was an ale brewed in a Rajotte system (5hl similar to a homebrewer kit)

The Lure:
Fat caramel and hazelnut sweetness coating the roastiness and chocolate. Rich and lightly fruity, the lager yeast is hiding efficiently, as this has all the signs of a potent brown ale.

The Festivities:
Mouthfeel offers less sweetness than the aroma had suggested, which might be a good thing for a full pint serving. Almonds and caramel dominate nonetheless, as a roasty passage dries up some of the sweetness. Finish is supple and uneventful.

Transcendence:
Look at the cute squirrel!

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry and GregClow -- my bottle courtesy of Viper666. Labeled "Médiévale". Finally rating this sucker, we’ve been after it for ages, many thanks to Viper666 for obtaining it for me. Pours a cloudy reddish-brown with a large lasting creamy tan head. Aroma: Finally a nice smelling Quebec beer tonight!: Caramel malt, a significant amount of hops and some brown sugary sweetness. Flavour of sweet caramel malt, brown sugar, light hops and nuts. Medium bodied. Not one of Bieropholie’s best but still pretty good.

Bottle (341ml). With blankboy and GregClow, blankboy’s bottle - as "Médiévale". Been chasing this one forever - thanks, Paul! Poured deep cloudy mahogany with a large creamy fluffy head. Sweet light roast malt aroma, lactic and herbal, a nice undertone of sweet winter spice. Tastes of grassy soft hops, grainy (dry straw) malt, a little nutty and an almost carbonized caramel malt note in the finish, along with some celery seed bitterness. Slightly chewy body, moderate astringency, ending in a long softly bitter linger - pretty nice for an older brew, interesting grassy hops in there. So .... who has a Na Zdravi! to trade me ....

[On tap, Very fresh keg - a few hours old, chilled, with Mario D’Eer]
That was great! Strong hazelnut aroma that dominates the sweetness of the malt. Head had all the hints of a quality beer. Taste was a little deceiving even if that my expectations were high. Thin body. Pale nuts taste. Medium carbonation. Might be too cold. I was too thirsty and there were so many good beers to taste!

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & blankboy - courtesy of blankboy. Brown-amber with a good sized tan head. Nce aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark sugar, and tart yeastiness. Flavour is mellow - more malt and coffee, with some nutty notes, and a light hoppiness to finish. A bit average for these guys, but still pretty nice.

Sweet, nutty aroma has some herbal notes and mild roastiness apparent. Clear amber-brown body is topped by a decent white head that recedes to cover. Caramel malts and nutty character blens well with a light roastiness in the finish. Medium light body with moderate carbonization. Sampled on tap at Vices et Versa.

On tap at Vices et Versa. Pours a reddish brown body with a thin offwhite head. Decent aroma of malt and nuts with some sweetness. Flavor of malt and nuts. The palate is light and dry. A rather decent brown ale is still a brown ale...

At Festival Bières et Saveurs Sept. 2005. Reddish brown ale with a thin moka head. Diacetyl caramel aroma, very oily. Sweet malt with fruity berries. Nice beer but not a Bieropholie caliber.
