Dark brown-black; yellow-beige rim for head. Wood, smoked but very refinedly, like a very expensive, lightly smoked ham. Very dry, a taste of wood and sweetwoods, gradually building up. Again sweet ham, honey-cured, and a touch of green apple-cyanide. Very good smoked porter. I cannot help it, but I usually like René Huards beers, this one is no exception.

Deep brown in colour, lingering beige coloured head, fair retention, some lacing. The aroma is very roasty, lots of smoke, rich, dark chocolate, some light coffee. The flavour is very smoky, very rich, no noticable alcohol, earthy, some chocolate, lightly sweet. Rich mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes very long, again with lots of smoke and a lingering sweetness. An incredible smoked beer, Bièropholie are clearly one of the best brewers in Canada as this beer clearly shows.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry and tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very deep ruby/dark brown with an average size diminishing light-brown head. Very nice aroma of roasted malt, lots of smoke, coffee and hops -- love it! Flavour’s the same: Roasted malt, nice and smokey along with coffee, hops as well as chocolate and has a nice bitter finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. This is friggin’ awesome stuff -- wow!

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, Harry’s bottle. Tasted side by side with the regular version (this one first). Nice smoky aroma - very earthy and rich - lovely! Very very dark brown, medium brown head. Taste - fantastic! Rich silky mouthfeel with tons of smoke, chocolate and even some hops - what a lovely soft chocolate finish. Complex and stunning.

Bottle (341ml). Shared with blankboy & tupalev, my bottle via trade with Viper666. Thick, oily deep dark brown with a decent creamy brown head. Thick carbonized malt aroma, tons of smoked peat, lush herbal hops - lovely. Taste - smooth! - creamy, lush hops, deep smoked malt - yum. Thick body, nice astringency, soft carbonation, the malt holds up all the way through the medium-long finish, tasty afterwards too, not too hoppy or sweet. Terrific.

Had the opportunity the do a side-by-side of the regular filtered and special unfiltered version (thanks beerbuzz). The difference between the two was more apparent than I expected. This non-filtered was more vinous/viscous than the regular version. A bit less roastiness, powdery chocolate and overall dryness. More of a light fruity raisin-ish flavour. Great beer but I prefer the regular version. For the rest it’s pretty much what I described in my filtered version rating. I won’t copy it here cause I hate to repeat myself. Bottle. Pours a dark black body with a small mocha head. The aroma is full of silky chocolate, coffee roast, raisins, toffee, and earthy smoke. Very smooth and roasty with far more smoke character than the filtered. Caramel and tobacco notes with some bittersweet chocolate making a short appearance.
