The nose is sweet, peaty malt with the addition of campfire smokiness. Light to medium-bodied, oily slick and flat with a woody dry finish. The flavor is a sweet, peaty, woody smokiness with a dry finish. No smoked meat notes in this one; not on the nose; not in the flavor. It was quite enjoyable sipping this one on a cool Spring night sitting in front of a patio fire. I can see this beer pairing well with a lot of different foods. Thanks for sharing it with me, Matt. mreusch (743), Olathe, Kansas, USA

Pours a cola brown with a one finger tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma is smoke, burnt peat, and molasses. Flavor brings out more smoke, peat and lightly burnt malts with some gentle sweetness. Not having explored the smoked style much, this is an enjoyable example, and good stuff, especially sitting next to a fire on a cool evening. Thanks again Dany! unclemattie (2442), Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 19, 2008 12 oz bottle, many thanks to gunhaver. Pours a dark rusty black with thin, but long lasting, beige head. The aroma is much like beef jerky, and I find myself salivating very quickly; beneath that are notes of coffee, light chocolate, and just a hint of overripened fruit. The flavor is... delicious. Again with the beef jerky smokiness, which I love. There’s a creamy chocolate sweetness under the smoke, which keeps it from completely dominating. There’s a little bit of a roasted coffee note, too. The finish has a fair amount of bitterness to it, really earthy hops mostly. There’s a little bit of burnt sourness there, too, but only enough to make it crisp. The smoke lasts well into the aftertaste. This is a very tasty beer.
