Almost black with a small beige head. Smokey ham taste, not dry at all. The aroma continues to entice as you drink it. Does have hints of Scotch aroma to it too. Thanks go to HogTownHarry for the opportunity to try this. JorisPPattyn (5192), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Almost no head, greige rim; near-black beer. Inviting smokey-phenolic nose. Smoked bacon/sausages, but also campfire woodsmoke, ironoxide. Dry-woody taste, with lots of tobacco-ashes, point of chocolate. Only faintest of smoked meat esters here, no fattiness, just dry & phenolic. Warming up, it gets more and more Islay malt-like, which doesn’t spoil a thing! Very rounded, soft-velvety MF, just a touch chewy. Is it the conditioning? The bottle? Or the other beers tasted at LCRBM07? Anyway, this seems to come out better than the Unfiltered version! Grand merci encore à mon pote Sylvain! larsga (2980), Oslo, Norway
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Medium yellowish beige head. Deep dark amber body, barely translucent. Smoky, malty, caramelly aroma with meaty, bready notes. Sweet bready yeasty chocolatey taste with powerful smokiness. Rounded, soft mouthfeel. Full-bodied. Wonderfully distinct and clear smoke taste, which blends excellently with the porter taste. Excellent. (0.341l bottle traded from glouglouburp.) wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Very dark brown that you could look into and see your reflextion. Beautiful aroma of pine burning wood with a touc of ash and burning caramel. Some espresso and 70% dark cocoa finish off the nose. Flavour is not as rich as the nose may suggest but full and rcih with lots of hickory smoke and subtle burnt candied flavour. Actually carries a soft bitterness as it goes down. One of the better smoked beers for sure. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Pours opaque black with some translucent, mahogany edging.
Barely a quarter-inch head developed, with an exagerated pour.
Aromatics filled with dark chocolate, espresso grounds, and smoldering embers.
Quite complex as it warms, with an earthy quality to the smoke, and vanilla in the finish.
The mouthfeel is on the thick side of medium, somewhat chewy and plenty tacky. Crisp and drying.
The pallet has a sturdy porter profile. Plenty big and robust, with acrid malts, bitter chocolate, and roasted coffee beans.
Quickly following through on each sip is a large smoke character. Enough smoldering char to bring forward an almost funky, barnyard nod.
Alcohol is warming and bitterness is firm and drying. All other hopping is nill.
Finishes with lingering oaky char, bitter chocolate, espresso, and suggestion of creosote.
Now *this* is a smoked porter.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 19, 2008 1100th rating, 70th of this beer, bottle via trade with Glouglouburp, decided to open this pretty much because my girlfriend loves smoked beers and this is the 2nd rated Smoked, and well I had it. Pours black with a half finger light brown head. The nose is ridiculously smoky and meaty. Its pretty damn hardcore. Taste is incredibly smoky and full of smoke and burnt malts. This is a crazy smoked beer. Its almost crazy intense. This is a crazy beer, and pretty much defines the style for me. puzzl (2648), New York, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 15, 2008 Tap at Vices et Versa. Beer of the trip. Easily. I’d place this in my top 20 very quickly. Now I just need to score some bottles of it. Very smoky, clean, hammy aroma. Slight mint and chocolate. Good complexity. Taste is uber-smoky, with a perfect porter to back it up. Finish is intensely awesome. All this is compounded by an absolutely beautiful pour with immaculate lacing down the glass. I loved this beer.
