Appearance: Oil slick black, very very small head. Aroma: Big smoke aroma, meat, sweetness, like MrRain says below, like your clothes after a bonfire! Chocolate, peat. Awesome aroma. Flavour: Again, wonderful smoke flavour, meat, so creamy, malts, peat. Nice smooth smoky finish. Just superb. Thanks Harry. MrRain (437), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of french tickler. BCGC pours black with no head. The aroma is like smoked bacon or your clothes the morning after a bonfire. There’s also a touch of something sweet in there that I can’t quite identify. The body is a bit more thin than I expected. I can’t help but wonder if maybe this one lost a little carbonation somewhere along the way. I have another bottle that I can rate if it is, in fact, a little flat. The taste is quite nice. Aside from the obvious smoky flavors that you’d expect I can detect licorice rock candy and port-appropriate malts. this is a pretty good beer but misses the mark with the thin body by just a tad. I think I like the Aecht Schlenkerla line a bit better. That being said, this is still a wonderful beer and well worth a little effort to obtain if you can’t get it locally. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown with a thin white head. Strong smoke taste, roasted nuts, and roasted malt. Smoke bacon ? Strong smoke tasted following you till the end. Like a campfire smell on your clothes. I’m not saying its a not quality product, but it really aint for me. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Bottle from a trade with blankboy. I totally forgot that I had this, and don’t even remember when I got it from Paul, but I’m glad I came across it as it really hit the spot tonight. Very dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is very, very smoky, but quite complex as well, with notes of well roasted malt, cocoa, licorice and espresso. Flavour is similar - a whole lot of wood smoke, but the same assortment of delicious porter flavours in behind. Moderately full mouthfeel, and a lingering smoky finish. Excellent! badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Dark brown color with no head. Mmmm... bacon... strong smoke aroma. Big bamberg smoke taste with a little peat as well. A little plain malt and roasted barley. Tasty! From a 12-oz bottle pours a semi-clear dark brown brew with a thin off-white head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and ring. Aroma of smoked and toasted dark malt, a hint of anise, chocolate and some dark pitted fruits. Taste is medium bodied with a smoked dark malt with some peat character, chocolate and some dark fruits. Finish continues the smoked malt aftertaste that slowly disappears. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Sampled at Skyview’s tasting. Aromas of licorice, smoke, chocolate. Nice flavor. My only complaint here is that the beer is undercarbonated, which almost always detracts from the experience personally.
