Espresso and Hickory or Beechwood smoke in the nose. The flavor is malty, but balanced. Smokey and chocolatey. Medium-bodied and creamy with light carbonation. Finishes smokey, lightly bitter and a touch salty. tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 25, 2005 As good a choice for 600 as any I guess. Bottle shared by jerc. Smoked chocolate (yum!) aroma - very strong campfire earthiness to the smoked aroma which I absolutely loved. Small dark brown head. Really nice smoked taste. Thin mouthfeel. Sounds corny, but this beer totally reminded me of one of those great dark pub coal fires I found in Ireland. Not as flavourful as aroma would suggest but still packs enough for me. Lingering roasted finish - maybe just a little harsh. Does this need to be 6.4%? I’d love for it to be a session beer, which would demand a lower alcohol percentage. Very enjoyable in good company. jzzbassman (847), New Albany, Mississippi, USA

The last of 3 smoked beers, this one had the biggest smoke aroma, and I just loved it. The combo of the palate and flavor made it a bit more than I could really dig. I think it was Mike who said it was like licking a campfire, and it was really apt. I would like to try this on a cold night with some smoked cheese. Very interesting and worth trying.
