Deep coffee body shows a moderate amount of carbonation feeding a gentle tan head. Big malty aroma. Rather sweet roasted caramel/coffee notes, almost chocolatey. Very malty on the tongue, no compromise. Considerable hoppy bitterness in the finish blends a well-balancing dryness to the elegant coffee and smokey flavors. Mouthfeel is slightly acidic, medium bodied with lively carbonation. Very good if not quite up to the 2003 batch for my tastes, but it’s such a pleasant style...
2003: Weird label with those popular merrel sandals. Anyway, so dark that you wouldn’t see through it in your wildest dreams. The head is generous and very brownish. Black chocolate and malt aroma. Full body, creamy texture that I like, the flavor is intense, a little bitter. The finish is pure smoke and somewhat dry. Splendid effort from nice guys. Congratulations. Try this up! 7/5/7/4/17

Pours big respectable head. Dark brown in the color. Dark roast, it seems that they used two different malts here. One dark, the other was caramel sweet; on top of that I felt some smokey notes as well.

Very dark beer out of the bottle with a foamy tan head and a smoked meat nose. This is a very nice smoked beer that I drank with aged Canadian cheddar and salami. Pretty dry finish for a smoked beer. Dark malt sweetness with nice smokey flavors - smoked ham flavors but not greasy. Very enjoyable beer.

Dark brown body with a rufous tone and silky tan head. Aroma of wood smoke, light smoked meat, and burnt pumpkin. Flavor of charred wood, black coffee, and mild tanginess. Woody, resinous quality plus smoke in the aftertaste. Medium to full bodied. The palate is on the fizzy side, but smooth. A very enjoyable smoked beer.

Black. Dense, frothy light brown head. Aroma of licorice, smoke, espresso, light mild chocolate, nuts & caramel. medium-full-bodied. Relatively complex flavour of smoke, caramel, chocolate covered coffee beans, & nuts.

Liquorice, smoke and some wood in the aroma, almost black, small tan head. Medium bodied, sweet/sour coffee flavour, quite bitter. Terrific. Thank You joey_capps.

Black pour with a decent tan head. Liquid smoke aroma. This is about my limit on smoked brews. Middle of the road compared to the Schlekerlas. Smokey malt profile with a touch of roasted malt in the finish.

bottle-sampled with Phillybeer_2112 in my motel room-wichita, ks-pous 90% opaque with tan head-looks like coke-a--cola in my glass. smokey aroma with hits of bacon and fish-not as strong as the alaskan smoked porter though. flavors are smokey, chocolate, and slightly cardboardy-lots of roastyness. somewhat unbalanced, but i liked it anyways!
