| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 12, 2009 12oz bottle poured into a dimpled mug. BC pours dark red with a smallish head that settles quickly. The aroma has a nice subdued smoked grains aroma and charred wood quality. This is a much better example of the style than the Grand Chef version. This one has a balanced character of roasted grains, espresso beans and a cleverly hidden balance of rock candy sugar. The smoke flavor could be a tad more prominent but really, the Grand Chef version was a little over-the-top with the smoke. The finish is clean without being crisp and watery. All in all this is an excellent porter. Thanks a million to french tickler for this trade. martin21 (155), Quebec city, Quebec, Canada

Beatiful long-lasting head. Smokiness is perfect and fits easily with the porter’s chocolate notes. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

typical porter color... burgundy brown with a medium sized tan head and light lace trails.
very metallic aroma... nickels, chocolate, caramel sweetness and mild smoke. it*s not so heavily smokey that nothing else can come through... unfortunately, there*s not a whole lot going on.
the flavor is definitely more smokey than the aroma lead me to believe... chocolate, coffee, caramel (without the sweetness), earth and meat lurk under a cloak of sour and nearly salty smoke. ashy aftertaste joins up with astringent roast. medium body. soft carbonation gives it a surprisingly smooth mouth feel given the acidity.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Bottle says it is a “double-porter.” Pours a clear brown, with ruby accents and a tan head. Aroma of wood, charcoal, roasts, chocolate malt, and dried meats. Palate is refreshingly light and dry, preventing the robust flavors from becoming overwhelming. Calumet can best be described as follows: a smoky, wood-burning barbeque marries chocolate and molasses to produce a delicious desert-like treat. ‘Nuff said. matt7215 (981), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada
