Drank in a tulip. Dark amber poor with a nice frothy beige head. Aromas of cranberries, resin, caramel, dattes, cinnamon, a bitter acid grapefruit scent... and very hoppy. Scents are much like the normal cascade... Again compared to the normal cascade, this version is alot more balanced. The bitterness is long lasting but not at all aggressive. Creamier mouthfeel. Preaty much the same as it predecessor, i’d say a tad better.

Pours a deep opaque dark brown with a towering, dense, sudsy tannish head. Huge wafts of brown bread and spent grain on the nose. This seems to be a theme with the IPAs this evening. Maybe I should blow my nose or something. Medium, creamy body; soft carb. Nuts, toast, brown bread, and yeast on the mid-palate. Light earthy, leafy hops show up around the finish and give it a nutty dirtiness. Decent food beer, but this is more what I expect out of a well-made brown, not a kick-ass session ipa. papat444 (17), St-Constant, Quebec, Canada

Aroma: Mild bitter smell, not much else.
Appearance: Pale gold, hay-like color. Nice thick head forms.
Flavor: Wow, hops hit you strong, very bitter (that’s a good thing)
Palate: The overpowering bitter & acidity lasts well into the final sips. In fact, i still had the taste on my tongue a good couple of minutes later. As it warms though, the sting is a lot more mellow.
Overall: Very good sipping beer & drinking it is no problem as i’m discovering my inner hophead! Very good beer from a brewer that i am starting to really enjoy. If hoppy beers are not your strength, go for something else. Me, i would definitely go for this one again.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Medium yellowish beige head. Hazy deep amber body with carbonation. Powerful fruity hop and malts aroma with notes of earth, grain, straw, and medicine. Faint mintiness. A little chocolate. Dry-sweet powerful tropical citric fruit hop taste with a firm, powerfully malty character with chocolatey, earthy, minty notes. Dry aftertaste of minty earthy roasty hops and malts. An excellent beer. Probably even better fresh. (0.341l bottle from glouglouburp.) probstk (1064), Nepean, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 6, 2008 341 mL bottle via Lubiere, shared with Ben, served at cellar temp in a tulip glass alongside Cascade. DE 18/07.
App.: Deep amber-orange, a wee bit hazy (just sl. more that Cascade), small light tan head (tigher than Cascade).
Aroma: Caramel, toffee, burnt sugar, resinous, soapy hops, light citrus, light grapiness, a bit of diacetyl.
Palate: Medium body and almost flat.
Flav.: Caramel and toffee, a hint of butterscotch diacetyl, strong soapy resinous hops, some esters; fairly sweet, quite bitter; leaves a green, leafy hops impression and a good bitter afterburn.
May also have diacetyl defect. LOVE the bitterness. oakbluff (302), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Bottle courtesy of papat444. Very murky pour-walnut color with thick head. This looks like a thick beast! Nose of mostly grainy malt and some hops. Taste- big malt bill stands out. The grains are quite forefront with the hops. Very nutty. Hops slap you upside the head half way through. Grapefruit rinds and a leathery finish. Thick mouthfeel with good carbonation. The more you get into this beer, the more the hops take over in the finish. Nice effort from a canadian brewery. One of the better canadian IPA’s I’ve had. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 9, 2007 12 oz bottle shared by Dickinsonbeer. Murky light brown in color with a small lasting head. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus, but with some muddled malts in the background. Taste is also citrus, with dirty malts and some metallic notes. Bitterness was quite subdued, considering it’s 100 + IBU declaration on the bottle.
