And that’s why it’s not exactly for me. I’ve read all the reviews here and what seems to be missing is the overly dominant, sweet and chewy, almost crunchy burnt shugar malty ness. I love the bitter ness, and the grassy piney tang is great, and oh, the delight of that constantly building overly bitter aftertaste, all music to my molars. But the malt, that over powering malt, removes all temptation to pick this one up again any time soon, but there is defonatly atleast one more bottle of this in my future. Looking forward to the "Plus" version, perhaps the stonger ibu will smoth our the malt more succesfully. And like I said, it’s great, just not great for me. Arome de caramel si délicieuse que j’ai le goût de m’en acheter, du bon bien sur. Un goût amère plaisant, le malte est délicieux et très présant. The bottle of this however great beer had a greyish label on it, with a 66 IBU mention on the upper-left corner. Was it really then, as it’s said here, best before december 2007? It didn’t seem so to me, although it had a pretty thick texture for an IPA. A pretty good beer, indeed amazingly and deliciously bitter but not everything is Cascade hop bitterness as the warmth of this hazy beer brings subtleties of caramel and some fruits, lemon and grapefruit. 2.89$ at Peluso is quite expensive but I’ll surely buy some more someday... Great, very great quality of product. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2005 341 ml bottle purchased with the mix 6-pack of Bièropholie IPAs. Very dark, dirty-hazy copper, thick with clouds and frothy fluffy topping...delightful pungent nose, orangy-grapefruity with faint but noticeable pie spices, and just a hint of creamy vanilla...wonderfully thick, juicy-fruity body, muted but always present citric hops, bitter orange swirled into burnt caramel, maple syrup and an oaky backdrop. Excellent, the best IPA yet from these guys. radiomgb (2056), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 29, 2005 Bottle. Beautiful rich copper in colour, thick beige coloured head, lots of lingering lace. The aroma was of citrus hops (lots of lemons), rich caramel malt, earthy and slightly sweet. Lots of cascade in the flavour, some pine and citrus, slightly sweet, lots of caramel malts. Dry mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes with a lingering hop bitterness, dry. Not as thick or chewy as either the Bièropholie IPA or Golding but another perfectly balanced (for me anyways) Bièropholie IPA. Well done. JorisPPattyn (5189), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2005 Dark red-brown beer, very slight haze with thick creamy and slowly collapsing cream-coloured head. Gorgeous grapey/grapefruit/piney hopsnose with some dark cookies behind the hops. Like the best American IPA’s but with a better balance. Sharp, but agreable piney hopsflavour and bitterness, strengthened by roaste bitterness, bitter chocolat, orange marmelade and grapey hints. Bitter chocolate cake. Well bodied, slick and even oily MF. Superb IPA, ranks amongst the best IMO. René Huard is one hell of a brewer. GonZoBeeR (2163), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada

Poured a dark reddish-amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Nice strong citrus orange aroma with caramel. Tastes of oranges, grapefruit, caramel, and pine. Not overpoweringly bitter - has a nice malt balance.
