Aroma of hops, alcohol, and earthy malt - mild. Dark orange appearance, frothy white head. Taste of caramel, with an earthy bitterness (perhaps Goldings???). Some wood and burnt notes as well. Watery. Interesting, needs more balance, but it grew on me as I drank it. GregClow (2515), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Red-amber colour with not much head. Aroma of tea, hops, a hint of chocolate. Flavour isn’t bad, but something seemed not quite right - there were some vegetal notes in there that I couldn’t decide if I liked or not. Hmmm. blankboy (3251), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a cloudy amber with a small fizzy tan head. Aroma was a tad sour and had something in it I didn’t like -- a weird vegetal malt or perhaps the Golding hop? Whatever it is I don’t care much for it. The flavour was pretty much the same thing but worse, there’s that sourness again along with that vegetal awful taste. I certainly don’t need a bigger sample to figure out what it is, I’ll just completely avoid it in the future. HogTownHarry (4025), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada

Poured a hazy dark copper, with a small very light brown head. Aroma very earthy and peaty, chocolate, some mild hops, even humus (not hoummus) - very unusual, dark and subdued. Flavour was of grainy hops, some burnt toffee malt, sharp and bitter in an odd way, even a little sour overall. Mouthfeel was thin and left me with a bitter and slightly burnt malt aftertaste - really intriguing, like jerc said, needs a full pint to ponder. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 25, 2005 Dark red-brown amber. Small creamy tan head is variable with swirls of the glass. Green grassy notes in the aroma, subdued malt and something unusual. Bitter, pithy flavour over earthy malt. Very minute ephemeral notes of celery that I would not have identified until recently, traces of caramel. Lingering aftertaste. A puzzler that probably warrants a larger sample to fully appreciate its complexity. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 5, 2005 (341 ml bottle: Obtained in trade with tiggmtl, thanks Stephen!) Oh BABY! I know I live on the west coast now, but this is my kind of IPA! Big, malty flavor drives this beer, with a mild hop bitterness sitting in the back seat, just along for the ride. Malts are rich, sweet, caramely, bready, very toasty, and bordering on wort-like, and it has a barrel-aged and vinous feel to it. The gentle hops slowly come to life, contributing a light bitterness in the finish. With the malts so rich and the hops so subdued, it’s the kind of flavor you get out of a beer that’s seen some serious aging, but the beer hasn’t been available for very long. Amazing. The aroma is fairly malty and fruity, and also kind of woody like touring a winery. Full bodied and smooth, rich and chewy on the palate. Cloudy with dark particles suspended in the bright, ruddy amber liquid. The head is absolutely gorgeous, light tan in color, over an inch in height after the pour, and maintaining a nice layer for the duration of the session. A thick blanket of ringed lacing covers the glass. I know this isn’t your typical IPA, but this is some kind of beer, absolutely delicious, beautiful to look at. I love it. Must get more! Aroma of floral hops with some significant bitterness but less aggressive then the Bičropholie Casdcade. Taste has nice mix between floral hops, mildly sweet caramel malt and dominant bitterness at the end. Overall, less heavy then the Cascade and I think it has the edge.
