Bottle 2005: Opaque colored with a small frothy layer of a hazelnut brown head leaving stitches on the glass. Huge nose: Charcoal, peat and mocca notes, some dates in the middle with hints of smoke and a tiny bit of ginger at the end. Taste is like soysauce, intensly woody, traces of licorice, cloves and star anis. Long lasting chocolate waves. Slick texture, flat carbonation. Medium body. A slightly salty finish. Rather complex brew - great! DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

I liked this one a tenth of a point more than the St. Ambroise oatmeal stout. Obsidian pour with dark tan head. Aroma and taste of roasty malt, chocoff, licorice, oak, rauch, and slight bourbon. Dense palate. Delicious. MillStreetMan (152), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2005 Wow. This is an excellent example of an Imperial Stout. Poured virtually black, with a dark brown head. It had a major coffee and dark, bitter chocolate flavour to it that lacked the malty sweetness of many Imperials, which is a strength, by the way. It had a dry, dry finish. Wonderful. crzybob77 (528), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 21, 2005 A very thick pour that came out as black as you can get with a dark brown head. Great coffee and chocolate aroma. Flavor is dominated by coffee. Very rich and thick. A bit bitter in the finish. This was one hell of a stout! beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2005 Bottle. Deep black in color and a thick, oily pour making a thick tan head. Nice roasted aromas. Taste is full bodied with flavors of smoky friuts, bittersweet chocolate and sticky hops. Mouthfeel is a bit lively for the style so it adds a nice balance. Smooth and creamy. Amazing aroma of roasted coffee, brown sugar, tobacco and dark berries. Well-balanced and complex taste made of a mix of coffeeish, roasty and chocolate flavors that hides the alcohol nicely. Finish is long, bitter and smokey. Leaves a good warming effect. This an imperial treat. Ungstrup (15371), Frederiksberg, Denmark
