341 mL bottle. (2007 vintage). Pours blacker than hell, with a few bubbles around the rim. The aroma is roasted malt and a lot of sweet chocolate. Exactly the same can be said for the flavour. I couldn’t detect any alcohol. There’s a little grainy bitterness on the tongue at the end. This beer is incredibly creamy smooth, and becomes even smoother as it warms. Great stuff.

Bottle thanks to my festivus master: Pours a thick black with the darkest brown head that I’ve ever seen. Aroma, dark fruits, roasted malts, some dark chocolate, coffee. Flavor, dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, some fruits. Big roasty bitterness on the finish. Very good.

341 mL bottle received via trade with Glouglouburp. 2007 vintage. Pours like spent motor oil with a spare, frothy, dark brown head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, coffee, nutty), light hops (grass), average yeast (meat, broth) with notes of wood and smoke. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

Pours a dark black with no head. Hints of dark tarty fruit, belgian yeast, candied sugar, some coffee and chocolate. Finishes with slight carbonation, yeasty sweet taste on the tongue.

34.1 cl bottle. Dark brown with wispy crema. Nose of salty licorice and coffee. Subdued but foamy carb, medium body. Taste of coffee, Baker’s chocolate and burgundy. Not bad but not quite imperial.

341ml bottle purchased in Montreal. Opaque black with a rich foamy head. The moderate ( for the style) alcohol is very subdued and the roasty chocolate malts get to play center stage. A very well done imperial stout, with a watery drinkability that makes it even more enjoyable.

Sample courtesy of Pailhead. Almost black, dark brown head, fades to film rather quickly. Aroma is full of dark roasted coffee with a hint of licorice. Flavor surprisingly is mostly bitter cocoa and licorice with only hints of coffee. As it warms gets a slight milk/lactic sourness, doesn’t really detract though. Tad thin for an impy st.
