Aroma of wine, perhaps a Pinot Noir, which is very unexpected for an IPA. Strong malt base, almost like a dry dopplebock, with a moderately bitter end. No floral or Pine Sol hits in this one. I would have liked a bit of either, but overall this was quite a good IPA! hopdog (5612), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a darker brownish-amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of citrus (oranges), flowers, light pine, and caramel. Tastes of oranges, caramel, pepper, and lemon. Nicely balanced (starts off bitter and ends in a sweet note). I’ve been impressed with the Bieropholie’s IPAs. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2005 Dark and slightly-murky brown colored. Scotch and oranges in the nose, some nice, mellow orange peel and grassy wheat notes as well. Peppery on the tongue, somewhat fizzy but not thin as that work usually describes. Mild caramel malts, slightly abrasive finish full of scotch, perfumy dark fruits, and a sour, pungent caramel coating. Very interesting beer, unique in a style that sees so many carbon copies. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2005 Dark chestnut, slight haze; thick miscellaneous yellowish head. Cookies, caramel and non-specific hops smell; also something meaty-yeasty going on in the background. Very prominent roasted taste, crème brulée, scorched caramel, going seamlessly over in the hops. There is, as MartinT says, something almondy underneath, even marzipany, held back however. Peppery not only in the taste, but even in the MF, rich body, slick. Strange. I feel uncharacteristically unsure about the marks given. One point less would seem to do it terrible injustice, one more would make it exaggerately overrated. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2005 Dark amber hue, thick creamy white head, intense floral hop nose, follows through on a medium-bodied on a robust bitterness palate, fruity note, soft malted accent leading to a well bittering hops finish. jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 29, 2005 This beer is a beauty to behold - nice amber color with a bountiful head and streaming lace throughout. Sweet malt aroma, almost like a scotch ale, with little in the way of hops. Winey malt flavor , lots of caramel, with a degree of bitterness. This is more af a hoppy amber than an IPA. Decent brew, but not a top-shelf IPA. Thanks to radiomgb for the sample. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Apr 28, 2005 Bottle. We were anxious to try this one. Cracked it, poured two snifters about 1/4 full. Wife sniffs and says.."yumm...butterscotch aromas..". Uh-oh....don’t think this IPA should be giving that scent off. Sure enough....very skunky. I’ll say this much, it was nice and bitter skunk juice in the end, but that’s about it. Will re-rate when I get another bottle. GonZoBeeR (2163), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada
