Malty, maple syrup and caramel nose plus some oranges and spice. Actually has an orange pekoe quality. Cinnamon cookie dough flavor leads into a woody, hoppy medium bitter finish. Another pleasing beer from Bieropholie.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 3, 2004 Updated: Oct 1, 2004Rich orange-red colour with a large tan-coloured head that falls back to thin sticky lace. Lovely caramel, cookie dough, and biscuit malt aromas. Faint vanilla and milk chocolate in here as well. Sweet malty start, with cookie dough malts leading into an earthy spice and orange citrus hoppy flavour before a bracingly bitter finish. Wonderfully complex and very well-balanced. The malt/hop profile here reminds me of Arrogant Bastard, but slightly subdued. Thanks Tiggmtl jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 16, 2004 Amber color beer out of the bottle with a thin off-white head and a dusty grain nose. Very malty IPA (compared to the west coast stuff I’m used to.) Toast, some fruit, and a long hop finish (the kind that makes you rub your tongue on the roof of your mouth.) This is a nice change for an IPA. Thanks to my Secret Santa for this one. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2004 bottle-sampled with Phillybeer_2112 im my motel room in Wichita, KS-pours dark orange with minimal off-white head-looks darker than most ipa’s. medium carbonation. piney hops-malty aroma-earthy, toasty, caramely-nice toasty malt flavors go along with the piney/grapefruit hop profile. The finish was slightly salty, but that may have been from the wichita water i used to rinse the glass out with. A good malty IPA Nexxus (261), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 12, 2004 Dark ruby amber with a medium diminishing off white head. Aroma of toffee, bread, citrus - mostly lime and grapefruit, salt, pine and plum. Medium watery body with lively carbonation. Definitely more malt coming through as mentioned in the commercial description. Flavor of red apple, plum, caramel, citrus, bread, pine, leather and hints of cherry, hazelnut, and spice. Kind of an old ale/ipa flavor mix. Very good. Another big thanks to Rastacouere for this one! PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 5, 2004 Darkish amber-copper color, reddish tones, nice. Nicely balanced and complex aroma, earthy malts and plenty of hops: piney, cannabis, tobacco, maybe some grapefruit. Surprisingly malty and rounded palate, balanced finish with a resounding smack of bitterness lingering in the throat. Somewhat mineral content as well. Wheatsheaf (104), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jul 19, 2004 Bottle—1st version, with “IPA” on the left side of the label. An orange-amber ale that pours with a small head that dissipates. Moderately hoppy aroma is piney and citrusy, with some caramel and fruit in the background. Light-to-medium body with a creamy mouthfeel aided by a very soft carbonation. A touch of caramel sweetness is noticeable up front before the hops reveal themselves around the middle. Piney and limey finish leaves a mild aftertaste. 7/4/7/3/11/3.2. Bottle—2nd version, with “IPA” on the right side of the label. Pretty much identical in appearance. Slightly fuller aroma has a more developed hop character packing a bit more punch. Light-to-medium body with a higher level of carbonation, but still fairly soft. Some caramel up front, again, but this time the hops step forward earlier. The hopping of this version seems moderately higher, with a piney, citrusy, lightly resiny finish that lingers more fully on the palate to leave a piney, grapefruity aftertaste. I give a slight edge to the 2nd version, although even that strikes me as somewhat plain. JPDIPSO (4935), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 16, 2004 Light brown to amber color. Small, but dense head of light beige bubbles. Rich earthy caramel surrounded by lightly citrus hops aromas. There are times the nose really enjoys this one and then at times it catches a waft of flesh and over ripe fruit (old refrigerator nose) - Interesting. Description says it all, after the first quaff, I could sit and wait a considerable amount of time before imbibing anew. Lingers of mocha, light roasted malt, raspberries, and almonds. I like it. Flavors start with a touch of sourdough and pale malt. Middle is somewhat vacant. Finish is dryer despite the description. I’m sure they mean "dry" as in devoid of flavor. A wonderful moniker as started by the macros. Another brew ala Rastacouere that takes me back to the roots of brewing. You can tell the brews started with a solid malt bill and added extra hops to balance. It’s nice to have some more traditional ales. After a trip to the PNW, where everything is an IPA that is actually an APA or strong american ale, this is quite a nice change of pace.
