Soft and malty. Pours a clearish red-brown, with a tall frothy soap in ochre. Flavor is confusing. It’s mostly caramel malt and faint, faint bitterness. This is hoppy? There’s some faint bitterness, oil-like, but nothing that indicates this has much hops. It comes across as a toasted Amber Ale. Clean, fresh and tasty. There is a slight styrofoam note somewhere in there. Way off style. Not nearly enough hop character. Did they mislabel a different beer? Thanks Dany! Dickinsonbeer (3494), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Aug 6, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice medium amber with a thick lasting head. Aroma is grassy herbs, earth, garbage-like actually, with some vegetal, and sharp metallic like harsh caramel malts- ech. Flavor is quite a bit worse, with more metallic coming through, grass dirt, garbage, and lots of very astringent and nasty dirty weeds. Astringent drity metallic bitterness- ech. Terrible. Couldnt finish. A rare miss from Bieropholie. swoopjones (1917), Buffalo, New York, USA

Taste is Malt dominated with nice hop bitterness. More of an English style IMO. Pretty nice beer but i like more hops sstackho (249), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 16, 2008 12oz bottle purchased for $2.49 from Metro Joanette in Montreal. Pours an unexpected rich dark copper. Little head. Disappointingly weak aroma. Flavour is not disappointing however. It’s strong and rich with a good deal of warming hops. This is not a West Coast IPA in terms of its hop profile - which is somewhat too bad as I feel most of those are tastier.

Smells of tea and earth with some grassy hints. Tastes of caramel, pepper, and has some earthy malt character. Mouthfeel is full with a metallic finish. GregClow (2498), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 9, 2008 Bottle from trip to Montreal. After two Le Grimoire drainpours tonight, I needed something good to make up for it, and this was a fine choice. Dark, clear amober with a small off-white head that leaves a decent lace. Aroma and flavour are both big and well balanced, with robust caramel malt notes backing up the piney, earthy hops. Great mouthfeel as well, full without being cloying. A very solid and drinkable IPA. IrishBoy (2716), Bakersfield, California, USA

Nose is caramelly, piney, and bready; clear dark red with a small beige head; flavor is hop bitterness, caramel, and earthiness; finish is bitter with a fishy note deep in the backgound the whole time as if I had been eating fresh caught and fried trout (which I haven’t had since last summer) bitbucket (2034), Kirkland, Washington, USA
