341 ml Bottle from Harry; Nose of a bitter chocolate covered cherry; bitter chocolate, cherries, and some smoky and caramel notes; dark lightly hazed brown with a small straw head; flavor has dark fruitiness (black cherries), caramel, light chocolate, and some light sweetness in the finish!

Poured a clear deep brown color with a gold tint and legs. No real head to mention though. The aroma was malty and peaty with a hint of smoke, age and alcohol. Malty sweet flavor with some aged notes to it. Light peat with an earthy mildly bitter semi-dry finish. Nice warmth. Medium-full body.

Bottle shared by goldtwins. Pours a hazy dark brown with some reddish highlights when held against light. Thin light tan head that quickly fades to a ring. Pleasant aroma of caramel, dark fruit and alcohol. The flavor is sweet caramel, molasses, dark fruit and brandy. Some peat detected as well. Definite warming from the alcohol at the finish. Full bodied with an almost sticky mouthfeel. Thanks Larry!

Bottle from my festivus master: Pours a nice mahogany color with a medium tan head. Aroma, boozy fruits, carame, some smoke. Flavor, caramel, brown sugar, peaty malts, light smoke, earthy notes, alcohol isn’t really noticable. Very good.

sample courtesy of Pailhead. Dark transparent mahogany, minimal tannish head. Very sweet aroma, caramel dominates with hints of smoke/peat in the background. Flavor on par with aroma. Long residuel caramel aftertaste. Thick oily mouthfeel. Well done.

11.2 oz bottle thanks to glouglouburp. Poured a deep dark brownish/black with some red hues around the outer edges and a creamy average size light tan head with a few visible large particles. Aroma was complex with some initial strong metallic notes that gave way to honey sweetness, nuts, vinegar, alcohol and wood. Palate was loads of alcohol warming, especially in the back of the throat, a full mouth fell and a good touch of carbonation. Flavor was chocolate, alcohol, slight vinegar, nuts and a little peat. Interesting beer but I found the alcohol a little to distracting, worth trying but hey anything Scottish is or Scotch style is worth trying.

Bottle (from Batch #2) via trade with HogTownHarry. Deep brown with a small tan head. Big aroma of toffee, maple & caramel, dark fruit and some mild alcohol. Full body. Flavour - sweet, very sweet, almost cloying in fact. Lots of the toffee & maple & caramel notes suggested by the aroma. As it warms, though, it opens up a bit more, and some dry hops start to poke through in the finish, cutting the sweetness. In the end, I really liked it.

I recently drank my last bottle from the first batch along with a bottle from batch #2. They are quite different, more so than I would have though. I much preferred Batch #1 although the #2 is still very good. Batch #1 has a “4ième/1000” on the top right corner while batch #2 has “2ième brassin”. Both had a ruby-brown body with a very small tan head. The first batch was like drinking an “all-dressed” pancake with brown-sugar, maple, etc… Highly enjoyable creamy body. Very heavy yet complex malt profile. Top-notch Scotch Ale (4.1). The second batch felt sweeter and simpler. Maybe a bit too sweet. Syrupy body full of molasses and stronger honey notes. A little corn syrup in the after-taste. Very good but I much prefer the first batch. Oh well… change is inevitable, except from vending machines.
