A ton of brown sugar, walnuts and a little maple in the body. Strong vinous finish mingled with bready goodness and more malt. Delicious. Made me want to rate again.

Smells of sweet malts and woody tones. Woody tastes with soil and sweet bread. A nice scotch that could use more malt strength. SuzyGreenberg (1410), Seattle, Washington, USA

Pours nearly black with bright rubied corners. Thin gray foam on the edges. Huge peat, smoke, earth, caramel, and wet leaves nose. Fantastic. Creamy medium body, still showing some resident carb even after a few years. Amazing peat, smoke, earth, caramel, leaves, and wood mid-palate. A little leather and tobacco as well. Long earthy finish. What an absolute pleasure to drink. probstk (1064), Nepean, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 4, 2009 341 ml bottle that is a couple of years old via Lubiere (merci!) alongside a Bilboquet version, served cold and at cellar temperature, respectively, in goblets. MA06/09.
App.: Dark brown with red hues, light tan head.
Aroma: Tangy fruit, nutty, sweet dark, dried fruits, wooden and grassy, molasses and burnt sugar, too much organic acid tang.
Palate: Medium-full body, almost flat.
Flav.: Tons of thick, rich, deep molasses, dark dried fruit, minty herbals, wood, rum, chocolate and vanilla, some bitter herbs; sweet but also decently bitter.
A more grown-up version of the brew. EnSiFeRuM (501), Quebec, Canada

En bouche le corps est rond avec une effervescence faible. On goûte des saveurs de caramel brulé, de chocolat noir, de prune de figue et d’alcool. Excellent bedainedebiere (291), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Updated: Nov 5, 2009I bought a few 6 packs at a ridiculously low price in a store recently bought by a sympathetic chinese guy that ignores everything about beers. Good luck to find some more. If you see some, get it because the sweetness of the 2005 brew is now combined with a thick caramel texture. Forget about the taste of alchool. Everything is now so sweet in this taste that it just feels like a delicious liquid quality candy. Too bad the Bieropholie actual Scotch ale is not as good... This beer ought to be ressuscitated. ADDED: My God! That chinese guy had more cases! As a ridiculous bonus for reading this rating of mine, here’s a temporary tip: I bought something like 10 2005 6-packs in the last year, each sold at the ridiculous price of 8,99$. Best beer deal in Quebec ever, maybe! One case is left... Until December 1st 2009. After, I’ll go and buy it. E-mail me if you have it, and thank me, please... | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Updated: Jan 24, 2009Thanks to David for the bottle! Poured clear, deep garnety-brown with an initial cap of tan head. The aroma was just delightful.. rich, well-age caramel and toffee paired with complementary smoked beechwood and dry grapes.. quite nice! The flavor had aged caramel and dry smoky notes, but it just didn’t have the substance as the aroma.. sweeter on the back with syrupy dark fruits and cherries.. finished smoky and warm. Lighter-bodied than it should’ve been with a touch of sourness on the edges and a warming of the belly.. a touch sharp right at the finish. All in all a very solid brew! 9 3 7 3 15
RERATE: Bottled. Poured murky, deep garnety-brown with a dusting and ring of tan head.. some rising carbonation was visible. The aroma was on the strong side with rich caramelization topped by smoked peat amplified by sweeter boozy notes.. thick molasses and soy joined as it warmed up.. most definitely intriguing. The flavor was hot with boozage on all facets that made it kinda hard to drink.. caramel, toffee, and soy at the core with earthy and peaty notes around.. finished with rich malty sweetness and more alcohol heat. Thicker-bodied and a bit syrupy on the palate with mild bitterness and more than enough warmth.. OK overall. IrishBoy (2719), Bakersfield, California, USA
