| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Oct 21, 2008 In short: An gross dark beer of some kind with a abusive amount of anise.
How: Bottle 341ml. Rating for a 4 months old bottle (was even more disgusting when fresh)
The look: Dark ruby/mahogany body topped a small beige head
In long: Had this one when it first came out and the beer was brutally awful. Had it a few months later and it was simply awful. Another two months and the beer has mellowed out a bit and now it’s just bad. This is anise, hard-candies, more anise, molasses, more anise, grainy malts, more anise, some dried fruits and even more anise. This is a pretty bad beer and I apologize to everyone I sent a bottle to. Since my last bottle was not as gross as the previous one I may give it a try in another six months but I’m not expecting much. This is the only real misstep in Bièropholie’s history and what a misstep it is, there’s hasn’t been such a big misstep since the last time I was on a dance floor. oakbluff (301), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Pours a dark chestnut, minimal head and thin layer of lacing. Nose- oddly this smells just like chocolate mints?? Taste- thin bodied, caramel some spice. strong licorce finish. Slightly hot and dry finish. Interesting take on the style, but not my cup of tea Lubiere (4551), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2008 A deep dark brown ale with reddish hues, and a thin moka head. A pleasant aroma of chocolate, butterscotch and molasses, with good vinous notes, and a bit of vanilla. In mouth, an oily mouthfeel of burned caramel, licorice, and treacle. A bit short, but overall, a good representation of the style. Bottle bought at Jovi, Hull, 2.99$. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Shared by Dickinsonbeer. Lightly hazy deep amber in color with a lasting white head. Aroma of caramel/molasses, odd spice. Taste is sweet caramel, and some weird spice aspect. Interesting beer but not what I was expecting at all. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 28, 2008 (Bottle). Sweet toffee/caramel aroma. Dark copper with scant head. Flavor is sweet and candy-ish, like some kind of fruit filled chocolate confection. Not my style. CapFlu (3491), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 31, 2008 (341ml bottle) Purchased at Metro Joannette for $3.49. Pours a deep copper body. Nose of moss, scotch and mint. Flavour is deeply scotch malt and with a slight ginger spruce finish. Very powerful. Good. 7/3/7/3/15 robinvboyer (1443), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2008 very very dark ruby pour, with a very small beige head. Aroma is spice, black licorice, and mollasses with a good amount of malt. Flavour is loaded with licorice, with some nice malt in the end. The finish is again more licorice, and some good malt notes on the end of my tongue, a nice beer, but really it’s like a licorice beer. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Dark ruddy-brown color and thin light tan head that quickly fades. Sweet aroma with an odd licorice/herbal note along with some general malt spiciness. Sweet taste - no real weirdness in the flavor, save for some light sarsaparilla aftertaste. Odd but not bad.
