Commercial Description:
A "Vin d'orge" to be distinguished from American barley wines. Unique, but if linked to any other type of beers, it would be classic English barley wines.

Wine from barley sugar. One single variety of noble hop and one single variety of malt were used.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, Harry’s bottle. Dark orange, foamy white head. Alcohol, very sweet aroma. Taste is really really sweet - too much so. Lots of alcohol, especially as it is a little thin. Some spiciness. Not bad, but kind of one dimensional (sweet), thin, and simple. I understand it is not an American style Barleywine but I need a little more. On par with Mill St.’s recent effort which I did not care for.

Bottle (341ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, via trade with papat444. Clear medium-deep amber, smallish frothy off-white head. Aroma of lightly burned toast, herbal bitterness, honey, butter and a hint of hardwood. Taste - sweet, citrus juice, light yet somewhat aggressive dry resin hops and grapeseed ... light and sticky mouthfeel, solid astringency, moderate alcohol and a longish bitter finish - odd, a little weak - certainly different.

Small yellowish 2mm; beautiful light chestnut coloured beer. Caramel & greenery, slightly oxydized malts, ovomaltine, some aroma of shellfish. Bitter overlying taste over flavours of very stale cookies (if there’s any BBd, I cannot spy it). Bitterness is crude, unrefined, like scorched chicory. Medium bodied, bit sticky, little bit of alcohol. Very crude, fighting flavours. Sorry, Monsieur Huard this one, I cannot dig.

On tap at the Brouhaha, bright amber color, with a frothy beige head, leaving a curtain of laces, yeasty, bubblegum fruity nose, with a hint of sweet toasty, corny, honeyed pale malt, with a subtle hop spiciness, in a kind of sweet candy aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity, toasty, corny, grainy pale malt character, with a hint of ripe apple, faint flowery hop accent, with a warmth mouthfeel sweetness, leading towards a malty, warming, hop leafy bittering finish.

Pours clear, dark copper, with an off-white head that rose to an inch. The porous foam fell quickly leaving a few errant dots of lacework, and some crescent skimming on the surface. Akin to malt candy in the nose. Sweet malt with purple grape jam. Floral and lightly fusel-laden. Smelling quite fresh and young. The mouthfeel is sticky and lightly syrupy. Carbonation is light and keeps the beer clingy. The pallet is loaded with sweet, clean malt. Hopping is reserved for a smidge of bitterness, and fruitiness in the middle. Alcohol is apparent and warming, but no heat. Juicy malt continues throughout the finish, with some minerally crispness and lingering residuals. A showcase for high quality, fresh malt with some petal-like hopping. The excessive residuals cut down on the drinkability though.
