Commercial Description:
A "Vin d'orge" to be distinguished from American barley wines. Unique, but if linked to any other type of beers, it would be classic English barley wines.

Wine from barley sugar. One single variety of noble hop and one single variety of malt were used.

I feel this is a very interesting, even intriguing beer. There’s no beer like that in Québec. It is an expensive beer, the most expensive beer of Bieropholie, I think, at 4,29$ the 341 ml bottle (Peluso and Grand Duc) and is hard to find anywhere else. The aroma is like a sweet really delightful candy but you can smell the powerful sugary and hoppy flavors coming. It’s a very bitter, very hoppy beer, indeed. It’s somehow caramelised, with a great texture, although my tongue get a strange tingling, maybe due to the power hop bitterness. It has a long, infinite bitter-sweet after taste. Maybe a little under-rated on this site or maybe the intended snobish purity doesn’t mark high altogether. I like it, still.

Brown-amber strong ale, very clear. Earthy, lightly woody, malty, sweet, with prune notes easily detectable. Good bitterness which fades quite fast. I liked it. I bought a couple more bottles to age.

Interesting beer.........It’s got a really nice smooth subtle sweetness, reminds me of a good mead. Really nice caramel malts, some piney hops, and a semi bitter finish. A pleasure to sip and enjoy.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear copper color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some toffee notes and caramel. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt with distinctive notes of caramel and toffee. Fairly low hops presence which does fit the beer properly as accent should be put toward malt. Medium body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I very much appreciated that one and it reminds me of Youngs Old Nick.

Very sweet and jammy in the nose with some floral character and underlying marzipan. Lightly hazy golden-copper coloured body is topped by a low, off white head that recedes to a partial cover with some lacing. Sweet and fruity up front with notable but not overwhelming bitterness. Floral hop flavours and chewy cereal malt linger along with the bitterness i the aftertaste. Medium full body with decent, lightly prickly carbonation. Tulip glass. Just above cellar temperature. Bottle. Rahman. Jun-08.

Bottle - 341ml. Pours a hazy hazelnut brown body with average carbonation and a thin beige frothy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with barley, brown sugar, and plummy hints. Rich and complex vineous taste. It carries subtle grainy and oaky notes. Ends with a long, robust, warm finish. Unsurprisingly, another very well done beer from Bièropholie.

Bottle courtesy of radiomgb. Pours a reddish brown with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is sweet, malts, caramel and hops. Flavor of molasses, sugar, fruit, some earthiness as well. Has a lingering bitterness that hits in the end. Interesting brew.
