draft @ Naked City - dark brown with thin off-white head; sweet aromas of toffee, malts, chocolate and dark fruit; chocolate and some mild roast; decent and not overbearing in the sweetness; quite strong and a smooth, slow sipper

4/4/09 on draft at the Exbeerience. Aroma is all slightly sweet roast malt. Appearance is dark brown with a moderate maintained off white head. Flavor is sweet sour malt forward, with caramel dominating and almost no hop bittering. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carb texture. Overall, a little roast heavy, but quite good.

Gorgeous deep mahogany body. Not much visible carbonation and only a residual head. Mild malted grainy aroma. Easy graininesss and mild malt flavor. I get the impression that this will improve with age, especially if served from a bottle. Hard to believe this packs a wallop of 8.6% ABV, as you do not even sense it.

The aroma is very malty and fruity. I get tons of ripe fruits, prunes, dark grapes, chocolate, and earthy bitter hops. The pour yields a dark reddish brown beer with a bubbly tan head. Flavors are super sweet and malty, yet not cloying and unpleasant. Lots of dark fruit, grape juice, chocolate, and a good dose of bitter earthy hops to round it out. Nice bitterness for the style yet still lots of strong sweet malt and some booze. A style I am not too fond of pleases me almost enough for me to say it was the beer of the night... Almost...
