Commercial Description:
Brown Bother’s Scotch Ale - Every year the Great American Beer Festival sponsors a judged beer category based on collaborations between amateur and professional brewers. Across the country home brewing clubs organize events where local hobby brewer’s entries are judged by certified judges and the Best of Show selections are made available to local participating professional brewers to select for brewing as their Pro-Am entry to the GABF. This year, Big Al Brewing’s Pro-Am entry is based on a Strong Scotch Ale recipe developed by award winning local home brewers Mike and Steve Brown. Brown Brother’s Scotch Ale is full bodied with deeply complex malt flavors and a clean warming finish.

Dark fruit and almost rotten fruit nose. Very malty lots of dark fruit rotten a little tartness perhaps. Too one dimensional and sweet for my liking when it comes to Scotch Ales. Murky red brown pour with fleeting foam.

Aroma: Big malt bomb with lots of good hops to boot for the aroma.
Appearance: Deep Amber in color, Clear with a light head.
Flavor: Roasty/Smooth malt with a Carmel and light fruitiness.
Palate: Dry Finish, with a Good Mouthfeel.
Overall: One kick butt Scotch ale. Big Al is a great brewery.

9/9/09 On draft at the taproom. Aroma is sharp and malty, with a touch of molasses, lots of plum and grape bubblebum and a faintly alcoholic background. appearance is hazy copper, like aged honey, with a well maintained cream colored head and substantial lacing. Flavor is substantial roast malt and earthy hopping forward, with a background of sweet cream and sour malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low carb texture and light warmth. Overall, a great malt lover brew for those that like a bit of texture and bite.

Cinnamon and brown sugar, maple syrup. Somewhere between deep orange and bronze. Creamy toasted marshmallow, smooth and sweet. Some floral notes and very enjoyable to drink.

Deep amber hued grainy body with a thin whispy ecru head. Rich malt character. Some toffee notes with soft peaty hints. Strong presence of peach and plum with a yeasty ester note.
