Taste of sweet malt with faint hops. Head left a nice lace down the side of the glass. I like my brown ales a bit hoppier, but I still liked this one. hopscotch (5528), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Clear brown ale with a large, frothy, beige head. Caramel and toasted nut nose. Malty, nutty, caramel flavor. Leans toward the sweet side of balance and offers up a good bit of buttery diacetyl. Light to medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Moderately malty, crisp finish. biggcb (464), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Aug 29, 2006 Bottle. Somewhat uninspiring. Nice dark brown color with a medium tan head. Aroma is a little thin - some maltiness, but not much else. Flavor is much the same, with an oddly sour presence. Not a bad drink, but nothing exceptional. biznizness (952), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 30, 2006 Bottle thanks to Ross! Thank you. Pours a lighter shade of brown, leaving room for light to shine through. Head is one finger of beige froth, minute lace. Nutty malt aroma. (Roasted chestnut, boozy pecans) some mlk chocolate, and mildly hopped. Flavours are brown sugar with sweet burnt nuts, roasted malts, caramel apples. Finish is watery, but slightly creamy, and enjoyable. A good nut brown, if there ever was one. Thanks Ross. eboats (897), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | May 7, 2006 (12 oz bottle: Obtained 25-Mar-06 in trade with Jonathan3584, thanks Jonathan!) Second try with this beer, and though not as obviously infected as the previous bottle, there’s still some odd, lightly sour funk going on here. Mild nuttiness and light roast are in danger of being overrun. Funky and lightly sour nose matches the flavor except that malty characteristics can’t be picked out. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Medium-brown in color and fairly clear in appearance. The off-white head is quite lively on the pour, but once it settles to a quarter-inch in height, it shows phenomenal retention. There is no bottling date for this beer, but I give it another month or two and the growing infection would be a runaway train. Even now, it’s not the least bit enjoyable.
